A small town Tennessee mayor is really busting apart those stereotypes.

We all know the stereotype of a deep-south small town mayor. Racist, corrupt, and not above using the police to harass his enemies. Well, this guy does nothing to dispel the stereotype.

Also doesn't he look a little like Boss Hogg?

"Everybody's got their own flaws," he said. "He's done an all right job. He's done as good a job as anybody else that would have been in there."

And that's where any sympathies I might have had for the rubes in this hamlet were washed away.

Not all of them are, but this place sure makes them all look bad. Of course, the damnable shame is that I've seen more Confederate flags up here in Pennsyltucky than I ever saw living in Tennessee.

It always strikes me as weird when I see a confederate flag in New Jersey. It's like someone forgot to tell them that New Jersey was on the Union side in that war.

Beating a "Flag-burner" into submission is just another way of expressing your freedom of speech you know!

*ahem*

Fuck you.

While Nagin's comments were racist and bigoted, I find the APFTE site almost as disgusting. Hell, their home page features an article who's title advocates beating flag burners. Fuck that whole freedom of speech and constitutionally protected rights thing.

Remember kids: Any time someone anywhere in the world does something wrong, it's essential to show someone at the opposite end of the spectrum doing it too. Your mother was wrong, two wrongs *do* make a right!

My bad on the site. Guess I should have chosen a "more acceptable" site to link the story to. As I said, it is unfortunate that we have racists around.

Sorry, but you sure as hell should have checked that site. I'll agree that there are black racists. But that was one of the worst sites you could have posted to show it.

Teheh.. You wouldn't.

Well, on my trip to Tennessee we only went to Memphis and Nashville.. I'm pretty happy about that.

In a town of 3,000 what are the odds of finding even one with a post-graduate degree? And if you did, what are the odds that individual would quit their day job to become the Mayor of that po-dunk fiefdom?

Beggars can't be choosers. I imagine this guy, if not the only candidate to run, was the lessor of two evils. It's just too bad that someone better didn't step up to the plate before he was voted in. Perhaps, now the townfolk will be more interested in who they elect. Now that their elected has embarrassed the shit out of them.

It isn't exactly a small town. 3000 people, time to go find the census data.

Why would one have to have a post-graduate degree to effectively execute the duties of an elected public official? One doesn't have to have a formal education to know that people should be treated with respect. Nor does being a good leader require a formal education.

Though his right, using racial slurs is degrading, offensive, and a really bad idea for an elected person. The corruption is straight felony, jail him for that.Theres just one charge that doesn't fit:

The complaint also accuses Crosby of violating child-labor laws by hiring several teens, including his stepson and the son of the town's vice mayor, to mow grass.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

First off, I mowed lawns since I was 12. Two lawns at $10 and hour for about 4 hours a week. Damn good money for a kid and it taught me to work for what I had and to respect heavy machinery.

Furthermore, all the corruption charges are something and outraged public would rally behind, but hiring kids to mow his lawn? That sounds like a petty election year mudsling and seems downright petty including that in the laundry list of real crimes.

I agree. They are just trying to get something to stick. I am sure he didn't collect sales tax at his garage sale either...

Maybe you and I live in different parts of the world, but I would expect to find more than a handful of people with post-graduate degrees in a town of that size.

Maybe you and I also live in different parts of the world, because 3000 people is a pretty small town to me.

This sounds more like nepotism than violating child labor laws; I wonder what the child labor laws say.
