Canada Day
Today in Canada is the 139th Anniversary of the independence of Canada as a sovereign country, therefore I am launching a Canada Day thread. I'm trying to get a wider perspective of the global view of my country. Therefore I would ask anyone who's reading this to post their comments and opinions (good or bad) about Canada in general or anything in particular.

This is about the third such thread. :)
Canada seems like a nice place though. If I had to live in another country, it would be there or New Zealand.

Woot! Time to smoke a lot of drugs. I'll break out the shrooms later, when I try contacting McKenzie King with a Ouija board.
This Canada day, I have a stomach ache. What an amazing day - so exciting.
I went to Spencer Smith park in my home town, where there is a Canada day festival going on. I plan to watch some fireworks later tonight.

Hey! Leave the fucking beaver alone!
LOL!
I celebrated it last year by punching a guy with an English accent. It later turned out that he was New Zealandish (New Zealandese? New Zealandian?). In my defense, he made a joke about my mother. :D
It turned out alright, though. We actually got along pretty well, and we made jokes about one another's country. New Zealand. Teehee. They're unimportant in the global scheme of things. :p

The Union Jack is actually one of Canada's official flags. It's the royal standard. Also, "God save the Queen" is our royal anthem, played on official occasions.

Canada day? Well, it's fun because it's a holiday.
You won't see lots of flag waving from me, though. I'm from Québec.

I wasn't going to say anything inflammatory about Canadians. And I still won't.
I looked up the history of Canada Day and found that it was first celebrated in 1879 as Dominion Day. I guess that celebrates the dominance of the Queen, or something. It was again celebrated in 1927 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation. Pretty solid history so far. It turns out that it wasn't regularly celebrated until 1958, so it's a little more established than Kwanza, but not by much. Anyhow, this is a pretty sad history for what is passed off as Independence Day, or actually Home Rule day. But if you can get a day off, have at it.
