That poll is so not multiple choice. Poo.

Anyway, I'd eat anything but humans and cockroaches.

If I was starving, probably any of them. I'd have severe reservations about human, but in a life or death situation, i'd probably have to.

In a normal situation, i'd feel a bit uncomfortable eating dog, cat, or cockroaches...slightly less so for horses...but the others are probably OK.

(rat might seem gross, but i'm guessing we're not talking plague rat here - a rat bred in captivity and looked after properly is no more unhealthy than any other animal.)

Horse actually tastes really good (well, at least horse salami does, I've never had a horse steak or anything). <.<
In Spain we always had salami made out of donkey meat - absolutely delicious. Mmmmmhhhhh.
Of course, donkeys are my favourite animals, so there's always a bit of a guilt trip involved. :(

In normal, out to dinner type thing, I shant be ordering a human sandwich with cockroachs any time soon.
Cats and dogs would be safe too.

What, so you wouldn't eat a little roach, but you'd snack on Jeremy over there?

I'd sooner not eat horse or cat. But I would if it were necessary.
I can't imagine cockroaches would actually be worth the effort, but if they were the only thing around I'm sure we could think of something to do with them. Unless they're less crunchy than I'm thinking?
The rest? Yeah, I'll try anything once.

Yeah, i've heard about horse salami. Not sure if you can buy it here, though, it might be illegal.

I can say that Koala is definitely illegal, 'cause they're an endangered species. But Kangaroo meat is actually pretty nice.

I have had both horse and dog, wouldn't eat the horse again.

I have eaten an earthworm, so I guess I would eat a roach......

wait, why do I have to eat it?

I eat neither mammals nor birds, so I would eat the cockroaches. Lots of protein, little fat. Probably fried. I am more of a gourmand than a gourmet.

Ive never really understood the whole taboo against eating raw meat. I've had steak tartar, and the strategy for cooking a good steak in most high-end steak houses is to manage to caramelize the outside and form a crust while keeping the center cool. I guess I can understand it being a texture thing(raw chicken is gross), but even then you have quite a few people who like to eat oysters on the half shell and I cannot tell you how many sushi places I have to drive past to get to work.

Food restrictions are largely a cultural construct. The dietary restrictions present in Judaism and Islam exist because certain animals or parts are considered "unclean." Americans can't fathom eating a horse(what would the cowboys ride!) while people in the rest of the world barely bat an eye. Insects seem like a disgusting food choice all the way up until you live in a place(or a situation) where protein is at a premium, then its just part of your daily diet. Even the discomfort most westerners have with eating cats and dogs is almost entirely due to the way we anthropomorphisize our pets.

I remember taking a course on the native religions of North and South America and watching a documentary on the lives of the Inuit people in norther Canada. This was a people that had learned to survive in one of the most harsh enviornments the world had to offer, and a people with relatively few food choices. Permafrost prevented the cultivation or gathering of crops, so these people had a diet that consisted almost entirely of meat from two sources: fish and seals. Cooking meat destroys certain vitamins, so the Inuit were used to eating most of their meals raw. There was a certain passage in the film where a group of school children were being taught how to properly dress and gut a seal. While they were learning the children were given hunks of raw meat and little glasses of collected blood.

In a room of perhaps 25 educated students(most of whom were fairly liberal) it was strange to see the revulsion and anger that marked most of the responses in my class at such a violation of cultural norms.

I'm too accustomed to eating regular farm animals, but if it were a life and death situation then yes I would eat those on the list.

Please note that i've never eaten anything on that list, so I don't know what they taste like...But i'd try anything on that list, except for insects and humans.

I'd be a little dubious about the rat meat though...Gotta cook it well-done, to get all the germs out.

That sounds about right.

Actually, come to think of it, if you could convince me that it had some decent flavour to it, I'd probably eat just about anything whether I had to or not.

I hear rat meat is very good, nothing to strange tasting. A good survival tip. Horses have much better use than to eat 'em, unless the leg breaks.

Any of them, I guess, though I'd probably have reservations about the cockroach. As a vegetarian I obviously wouldn't choose to eat any of them, but in a situation where I had to, it wouldn't bother me.

Also depends on how it's served. If I have to kill, skin and prepare the meat myself, that's a lot different to being given a plate of cooked meat to eat. I wouldn't know a plate of cat meat if it were sitting in front of me. If the person giving it to me said it was horse meat, I wouldn't be able to tell if they were lying or not.

I wouldn't eat "cockroach meat" since that doesn't really exist. Cockroaches are more chitin and feelers and shit than 'meat.'

Plus, that's just fuckin nasty.

And I wouldn't eat human meat, for health reasons. I mean have you seen what humans eat? They're worse than cockroaches.

Generally speaking I'd prefer not to eat cat, cuz cats are cool. But in any case, as long as the meat is in a palatable form (i.e ground up, cooked, tasty) I might consider it.

I cannot imagine myself willingly eating human, dog, or cat unless I was literally going to starve to death otherwise. Even at that, it would be very difficult; I've been friends with too many humans, dogs, and cats.

I'd probably try any of the rest, if cooked by somebody who knows what he or she is doing. I've actually heard that rat meat isn't half bad...
