Is there some kind of rule against women in the Icelandic Armed Forces?

The NATO (US forces) has had a base there for 50 odd years, up until recently. They've never needed an Army.

Isn't Iceland not having a military fairly common knowledge? Why point it out?

Just because they are eligible for service doesn't mean jack, because there IS no service. However, the police forces there do maintain paramilitary teams and have sent officers to international peacekeeping efforts like that in Iraq.
