I'm not sure where the statistics are obtained from, or what part of the population/world this represents, but I find this morbidly interesting and somewhat humorous.....Check it out and post your thoughts.

I imagine it's based on total statistics from the developed world - total deaths is probably worked out from combined death rates per year, and then causes of death will be from the same basic statistics. I'm rather surprised pancreatic cancer has so few deaths considering it has a mortality rate of around 90-95%. From 50 cancer deaths it only counts for one of them.

I'm curious as to how someone would go about dying from schizophrenia or unipolar depression. Surely they'd come under the "self-inflicted injuries" heading, if anything?

Maybe one of the multiple personalities killed one of the others?

If they commited suicide it could be considered a depression death.

Multiple Personality Disorder is not the same as Schizophrenia. They are entirely seperate conditions.

1.8 deaths a second isn't enough for you? The number of people dying every year is almost equivalent to the population of the UK, which makes the death rate just under 10 deaths/1000 population...

they should count the number of deaths caused by squirrels

Fifty minutes and no leprosy deaths. Ischaemic heart disease and cerebrovascular disease seem to be the major causes of death contributing about 12.5% (more than all cancers) and 10% respectively.

If they commited suicide it could be considered a depression death.

So, people that randomly kill themselves without a history of depression would go under "Self-inflicted injuries" or what? I also don't see bi-polar on the list. If we're counting suicide rates by mental illness, more people who are bi-polar kill themselves than people who are uni-polar.

Wow, I thought there was about 1 death a second a few years ago, now its gone up to nearly 2. Time flies huh? especially if you have Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, man, just reading that page I have a whole load of new diseases to worry about.

Unintentional injuries and Suicides are running neck and neck, interesting.I've never even heard of uni-polar depression, what is the difference between it and bi-polar? It is surprising to me at least that there is so many deaths from Malaria.
