Does this mean I have to eat seeds now?

I, in my quest for cash, have signed up to be a human guniea-pig. (For anyone who doesn't now, that means I get medicins tested on me) but I was suprised how many people I know who said "OH NOES!!!!! You're going to DIE". Aparrently, they are under the impression that every medical test goes the way of the TGN1412 test (That's the one where everyone got REALLY ill, and the last person has just had his digits amputated). So does anyone else think I am taking an insane risk in this? Have any of you ever volunteered for clinical trials?

On the contrary, I've had several mind-altering drugs tested on me and look how I turned out. :)

It's a fairly large risk, but there's a lot of money to be made from it, and you're also doing society a big credit in your own way (making sure we don't die).
Just stick to the more minor treatments and you'll be fine, the cancer vaccines etc. are the ones with the most potential to go horribly, horribly wrong.

I would be pretty careful about it.. Do a bit of research and the like.
Could make a bit of cash though which is all good.

And I collect flashlights.
I don't know why. I have about fifteen of them ranging from those everlife ones you shake up to rechargeable fluorescent lanterns.
I wouldn't worry too much. Medicines should already have been extensively tested before they can start human trials.. There's certainly some risk (otherwise why bother testing at all), but anything that'd show up in a mouse should already have been taking into account..

The title connotates A LOT.
Just sayin'.

From what I know being tested on is actually a pretty tiny risk due to testing laws.
To make the risk really insignificant then just avoid initial tests of new drugs. Which was what TGN1412, a completely new drug. Nothing like it had ever been tested before.
As I remember most drug testing is just old drugs but with tiny changes to see if it changes the efficacy or reduces side effects from taking the drug.
But yeah, easy money, little risk.
edit: For most initial testing they try and get terminal patients to test the drug. By the time it gets to your average tester they're normally just looking for minor side effects.

£350-£3,000 depending on the study I take part in.
Another motivation is that one possible career path I may end up on is designing medicines, and then I'd want there to be volunteers to test my drugs :D
