Couldn't be arsed to watch them is all..
At this point you probably shouldn't bother. Those films are good but also a product of the times they where made. When I saw Star Wars I was a 6 year old kid in a movie theater for perhaps the first time-it was like nothing I had ever seen and that impact cannot be replicated. I watch it now and chuckle at lines like, "But I was gonna go to the Tashi station to pick up some power converters..." or whatever else, but at the end of the day it's that film that introduced me to the magic that can happen when light shines through film and 200 strangers sit in the dark.

More and more today I see people unable to manage thier own expectations. If one (and I'm not saying that this is definetaly the case for you) where to watch Star Wars now having not seen it they'd walk in expecting the film to give them a virtual handjob. No one seems capable of letting a movie happen to them without inflating their expectations disproportionate to other people's reactions. Without that innocence, if I can call it that, that sense of wonder that comes from the film and not the merchandise and fan base, you'll simply walk out with blue balls because you didn't get your handjob. The ship sailed and you missed it, let it go. Perhaps another movie filled that role for you, but the world doesn't need another person bitching about missed handjobs...

Having said all of that-

I never saw Armegedon-I couldn't get past the premise that it was easier to train drillers to be astronauts than it would to train astronauts to be drillers. People always say, "But it was a complex drill" Like aiming a shuttle at a moving astroid isn't-they're freakin' scientists...anyway...

I didn't see the last two Matrix movies. I didn't like the first at all so there wasn't a reason to see the other two.

Armagedon was a good movie. Which reminds me - does anyone remember Anaconda? That was back when movies used to be magical. Now they're just computer generated segments of random death and violence.

The movie where the computer generated snake randomly attacked and killed people?

As amused as I am by a friends' defense of that movie ("It was subtle, but you see-there was this giant snake, and it was eating people...") I'd hardly hold that as the halmark of movie magic. To each their own, I guess, but still...

Men from other planets aren't likely to look like us, fly, or be bulletproof. Being bitten by a radioactive spider is more likely to give you cancer than the ability climb walls. Nannies cannot arrive by decending via umbrella. Perhaps your english teacher should have explained suspension of disbelief.

Movies, novels, and other forms of fiction are not intended as documents of what might happen, they are stories. Stories that don't always have to be possible, sometimes not even probable.

Oh, I understand it. It's just that it's a huge gorilla. The only thing that interests me about an oversized animal is if it could possibly survive if resized to scale. Something about King Kong only made me curious about that. Just never something in which I was interested overmuch.

Popular movies I never saw? Hmmm, gonna be big list because there are many popular movies out there. I'll start with some more recent ones:

Passion of the Christ
Da Vinci Code
King Kong
Saw (watched the sequel, funny but predictable)
The Hills Have Eyes
Ah hell, just about anything that has one some major award I won't be viewing for at least another ten years so I'm spent...

I did go watch Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.;) Surprisingly it is the best of the three movies ( ). Especially the beginning, I nearly died laughing from that part. What did irk me though was the extravagant use of the old Blade Runner sets....

I've seen so few movies that I can remember the majority of what I've seen because the popular movies look like dog shit to me.

The only good popular movies in recent years that I've seen are the LoTR and HP series. I've avoided EVERYTHING else and when I say everything, I mean everything.

What's weird is that will maintain for a while because every teacher will assume some other one has shown you that film and want to use that class time to expose you to something else. But eventually someone breaks down and shows you, hopefully they'll go all out. When I went through it the professor who finally did insisted on showing a film print of it so we could appreciate the deep focus that DVDs wheren't able to really replicate.
