Well, I just got back from the movie theater.
The movie was good.
Not great.
Good.
Almost great. Could've been great. But a couple weak moments in the bottom third of the movie downgraded it to good.
The benefit of seeing it on the big screen is the special effects. Special effect-laden movies are always better on the big screen. But storywise, this is a DVD rental. Maybe a DVD buy if you're a comic book fan.
Nevertheless, you will be entertained for two hours, and it will leave you wanting some unanswered questions answered. Which is good.
But not great.

This might be Singer's nitch as a filmmaker-making movies that you almost like, but never quite closing the deal. If filmmakers where a classroom of kids he'd be the one that "has such potential..."

If you want, you can hug him tight when Lois Lane dies.

Oops!

Ya, Superman sucks.
And I'd argue that the vast majority of comic book fans agree with that statement.

I just saw this movie tonight as well. I've got a couple of complaints.
1: Since the theater was so crowded, my left knee cramped up.
2: The line at the concession stand was entirely too long.
3: Snape kills Dumbledore.
Overall though, I liked it. :D

I don't know about that. Superman sucks only if you aren't particularly familiar with the Superman mythos. The more you learn about him, the more poignant his story is, in my experience.

What's amusing is the dude is probably thinking, "I'm totally getting to go to that movie with this chick I'm way into. It's probably nothing, a 'just friends' deal, but whatever. I'll take it. Maybe when Lois Lane dies I'll get to hold her..."

For the most part films are divided into thirds. The convential wisdom (don't get me started) is that film works in a three act format. When they teach screenwriting they insist that it pretty much follow that formula, which is-
Act 1 Introduction that ends with the conflict-the stakes come into play around pages 30-40.
Act 2 is compliation, all must seem lost at around page 60-80.
Act 3 is climax and resolution, there is a change in the main character.
Honestly pretty maddening, because in order to do anything different you have to run off and film it yourself with whatever money you can convince people to give you, and they won't do it unless it has this three act format. The strict adherence to this formula is shackling film as an artform.

Ok, so i did skim to see if anyone quoted me...
and i know you and Lunatic Goofballs are going "mwuahahaha! we've spoiled it for her!" and I SO don't care!
Thanks so much for that incredibly sweet comment, too. (He'll know she dies too, if she really dies, cuz he is seeing it with friends but when i said i wanted to see it was like, ill see it with you) LOL!! You have no clue how idiotically thrilled i am. Well, you have some idea, cuz im posting about it all over the net but whatever. :D

I don't know. I really liked the first two X-Men movies, and he was responsible for those. I haven't seen this one yet, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, unlike X-Men 3, which I haven't seen yet.
