one of my friends drinks 3 ltrs of diet coke a day. caffeine is addictive, if you drink that much you are seriously addicted to it. it's not really an imminently dangerous thing to get addicted to but your blood pressure will likely be too high, you'll be constantly dehydrated unless you drink copious volumes of water as well, and, besides, coke makes you fat. it's also completely disgusting :p . now, irn bru on the other hand is made from fermented and distilled mana and extends your life by 15 minutes every sip.

Caffeine use, unlike smoking, is widespread, socially accepted (incouraged even), politically correct. I don't care if caffeine use doesn't cause heart disease in other people. It alters peoples brains, turns them into raging addicts who crave and need and worship and put their penises into their stimulant. Caffeine is the viagra of mainstream America. Caffeine is for people who can't get it up. It makes them assholes. No wonder they're so hard up about smoking. It's the caffeine talking.

Maybe you don't care about affecting other peoples health, but I'd rather you didn't. I have never in my life smoked (nor have I drank coffee btw, and I don't buy caffeine drinks) and I would prefer it if others didn't smoke near me as well (I don't go telling people off in RL, most wouldn't listen anyway). I think that passive smoking is a lot more serious than you being annoyed by a slight change in peoples behaviour due to drinking coffee. If you don't care about your own health then you should at least think about other people. Not that you are going to listen to me, you'll just carry on as you are while other people breath in your smoke...

That's a pretty serious addiction. I've been addicted to caffiene (I needed about 40 oz. of caffeinated soda just to function), and it is certainly possible to stop. I'm a lot better off not being addicted.
If you want to break the habit, I have one big tip for you: Drink plenty of water, so you're not thirsty and don't feel like drinking soda or anything. Granted, you might switch to chocolate, but hopefully that can be avoided. When I was going cold turkey I carried a half gallon water bottle with me each day to school.

How I like my caffeine is in the form of coffee mixed with Excedrine. I wake up with headaches, for some reason that has yet to be explained, and when I roll out of bed, I suck down a cup o' joe, and pop two excedrines. I'm on my feet within the next four minutes.
Maybe you don't care about affecting other peoples health,
I care about exactly as much as anyone who ever drives, rides in, or benefits from automobiles.
I think that passive smoking is a lot more serious than you being annoyed by a slight change in peoples behaviour due to drinking coffee.
"Passive smoking" studies study people who live with smokers, generally the ones who smoke indoors, for ten, twenty years.
Not, for example, people who walk through a park in which people are smoking.
So it's generally a fallacy to take results from such studies to apply to the later. You're not gonna fucking die of cancer cuz someone is standing next to you with a cigarette. I know anti-tobacco propaganda would make you believe that is EXACTLY what will happen.
As for caffeine, well, it's a stimulant, which if overused (And studies show most people do overuse, and are addicted to it) can lead to stress and heart disease. Heart disease is the #1 killer in the country. But don't let me shatter your dreamworld where cigarettes are evil and caffeine is gold-plated candied medicine.
If you don't care about your own health then you should at least think about other people. Not that you are going to listen to me, you'll just carry on as you are while other people breath in your smoke...
Why should I listen to you, or any other online ranter? You don't even have the common courtesy to ask if a smoker will move away - so why should I? You really think trying to guilt trip people on an online forum is going to change their minds when you can't be arsed to make an effort in your own personal interactions?
Frankly, not only do I smoke in public (OMG), but I Drive a Car too! I obviously don't CARE that other people are breathing in my automobile exhaust fumes. I obviously don't care it contributes to the greenhouse effect. Not only do I drive, I take unnecessary drives - often going above the speed limit just to burn that much more chemicals to throw into the air.
But noooo. People like you have no rants against automobiles. Why? You think that's OK, it's acceptable to get cancer from auto pollution, because you think cars are "necessary" whereas my personal freedom is not.
Wow. Did caffeine beat you as a child or something?
Wow. Did tobacco beat, anally rape and kill all the anti-smokers mothers?
Or maybe I have a point about the hypocrisy of drug use in America: popular drugs are OK and good for you, unpopular ones are not, and their users are baby-eating murderers who should be castrated and hung from telephone polls.

I work in IT, of course I need it!
Need? No. Want? Sure. I used to drink a lot more coffee than I do now, but it started bothering my stomach (says my doctor, not me - I started having stomach problems and was told it was probably the coffee) so I cut back. Used to have two cups a day, sometimes three - now I just have a small cup in the morning when I wake up. I've also taken to drinking a cup of green tea at work in the morning instead of coffee.
Well, caffeine addicts need it. I actually cannot tolerate high levels of caffeine. I don't get a high at all, I get immediately tired and sick-feeling. I can handle tea, but espresso and energy drinks kill me. I'm not a fan of straight-up coffee, so that's moot. I never found much of an effect with sodas, but I stopped drinking soda a while ago. It is the most useless thing you can ingest I think...all calories, no nutrition, and enamel-eating properties to boot. If I'm going to get something sweet, I'd rather it be a chocolate bar.
I just have 1 or 2 cups of tea a day. One in the morning just to perk me up then one in the evening jus because i want to. Most of the day I'm drinking water and fruit juices.
considering the fact that some energydrinks advertise that there is the equivalent of two cups of coffee in every can...I had about eight cups yesterday to study for exam all night... Naturally botched it...

I drink pretty strong coffee around three times a day, never more than five. If I don't have it I'll get slightly sleepy and without energy but it's not that hard to get by. However, drinking that amount of Coke on a daily basis won't do much good to your stomach...
