The Gates Foundation has announced that they are going to spend about 3 billion dollars per year towards world health organizations and such. Now, the debate is whether the rest of the leading aid foundations should follow the Gates Foundation, or use their money in other areas. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Each charitable organisation has its own aims. For example, my family has a charitable trust and all funds go to arts programmes, victims of domestic violence, and those with mental disorders because those are causes near and dear to our hearts. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on things in the Pacific Northwest (where they live), libraries and education, and global health.

To be short, charitable organisations should just stick to their own aims and not copy other organisations.

I wouldnt complain if two or more charitable organizations worked together toward the same goal but I wouldnt complain if they didnt either. It's their money to donate to however they want.

I think charities should give to what they feel their money should go to; if they want to team up with others, that's equally as good as if they pursued a unique cause. Either way, people benefit.

at least, hopefully they benefit and if not, hopefully they learn their lesson and try to work it a different and more effective way.

Everyone is so shocked that Gates and Buffet would do this but that reflects the vile socialist worldview that your government schoolteachers pumped into your minds. Rich people are very often quite generous, and many of them don't announce it publicly.

Every one is quick to say that a Christian school pumps in vile morality doctrines into students, but fail to see that a government school pumps in vile big government/socialist thinking in students.

That's called corruption, which is something that is done by capitalists, socialists, and communists alike.

I certainly wasn't surprised. :)

I very much admire Gates for his willingness to use his large amounts of money to good ends.

If people benefit, it's for the greater good, regardless where the money is spent.

I think a lot more wealthy people are very charitable than you realise or care to admit.

is anyone acting shocked by this? It is pretty common knowledge that both Gates and Buffet give huge ammounts of money to charity. Stop blaming the schools. Schools mirror society, not the other way around.
