WC: Spain vs. France

The Cathunters
26-06-2006, 22:57
Last 1/8 day!

We are watching one of the best teams this year, but always feeble-spirited vs. the old France, full of glory but facing an uncertain future...

Who will win? Time to bet!

France has been weak as can be during the group stage. It was a disgrace to their team. Their defense had holes in it and they're strikers weren't any better. I want Zidane to play some more games so I want them to win but I'm calling for a 3-1 Spain win. My predictions are that Fernando Torres, Raul, and David Villa will score for Spain and Zinedine Zidane will score for the French. Anyways, Forza Italia!
The Cathunters
26-06-2006, 23:21
So we have the Initial Eleven of Spain, that will be

=================Casillas=================

===Sergio Ramos == Pablo == Puyol === Pernía ===

=======Cesc===== Xabi Alonso==== Xavi=======

==================Raúl==================

===========Torres ====== Villa ============
The Cathunters
26-06-2006, 23:23
And the Initial XI of France is

GK 16 Barthez
DF 19 Sagnol
DF 15 Thuram
DF 5 Gallas
DF 13 Silvestre
MF 6 Makelele
MF 4 Vieira
MF 22 Ribery
MF 10 Zidane
FW 7 Malouda
FW 12 Henry
AB Again
26-06-2006, 23:23
Spain are just too good for an ageing and tired France. The French defence will have no answer for the Spanish forwards whilst the Spanish defence will keep Henry (and Trezeguet if he starts) under lock and key.

3 - 1 with the French goal coming from Malouda. The Spanish goals I hope will be 2 from Villa and 1 from the midfield. (Torres is not in my fantasy team)

Alas, you're probably right. I'm not going to give a prediction on this one. I can't say I'm confident, but I don't want to bet against my own country.

France will be defeated by Spain. Spain's just been to good recently to fall to France. Do not confide in my logic pertaining to this matter, my vote for the Swiss did not display the desired outcome.

It's a little sad that the aussie commentators have nothing better to do (like scurrying back to their island) than calling a player racist. Wow...what a shocker...there actually is a racist footy player? That has to be a first...
Btw, did anyone notice that the dutch team has nearly no non whites playing for it? Is that thanks to Van Der Saar?

The Ukrainian coach is better:

"The more Ukrainians that play in the national league, the more examples for the young generation. Let them learn from Shevchenko or Blokhin and not from some Zumba-Bumba whom they took off a tree, gave him two bananas and now he plays in the Ukrainian League."

But he is. And they just dropped it as anothe facet to the game that they were previewing. No campaign there, no lies, no nothing. Although Spanish football seems to have an issue with racism (as does Italian football).
And no one has to scurry anywhere. They did extremely well, and they have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Probably due to van Basten not thinking they're good enough.

But that's the point. Pointing out who is racist doesn't add anything, in any way imaginable, to football. Football is a game and discussions about racism is politics.

And no one has to scurry anywhere. They did extremely well, and they have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

True, I just dislike the aussie footy team. Though I predict they will sink back into the relatively unknown after Hiddinck (sp...) leaves them. Too bad Hiddinck goes to Russia now, Sweden could use him...our team played like a pack of exhausted hookers the entire WC.

Weird.

Though I predict they will sink back into the relatively unknown after Hiddinck (sp...) leaves them.
Oh, don't count on it. Hiddink's left clear instructions for what sort of coach they need to get next, and they're following them. And with a bit of money (which they have) and the promise of the good life in Down Under, they can probably get someone decent.
Add to that a recently started new domestic league (the one they had before that was utterly defunct), and the fact that they are now in the Asian rather the Oceanic FIFA category (meaning they'll get to play much more often against much better opposition), I don't think this is the last you'll have seen.
The campaign to qualify for 2010 has already started.
Meat and foamy mead
27-06-2006, 12:50
Ah, they're in the asian league now? Well, that's bound to change a lot, I agree. It'll be very interesting to see how Russia will play in the EC in a few years. Or is Hiddink only taking them to the WC in four years?

He signed a 2.5 year contract starting after the World Cup (US$2.4 million a year...). So that's European Championships first. There is an option for another two years as well, so it probably depends on the performance during that tournament.

Yes, this is a famous situation, the coach saying to Reyes "Say to that f***ing sh***y ni**er that you're better"; but he always maintained he is not racist. He always presumed of being the stepfather of Etoo in football; and it is true: Etoo grew in R.C.D. Mallorca when Aragonés was the coach, and they were (and are) true friends.

Erm... All of them are French. Some are the children of immigrants; others are from French overseas territories. None were "plucked out of Africa" as your ignorant comment seems to imply. Strange as it may sound to you, ethnicity isn't a factor of French nationality. They wouldn't be able to play if they weren't citizens of France. They're home-grown talent, just as much as Ribéry, Sagnol, Barthez and the other white players.

And we're not going to apologise for France being considered a very attractive place by immigrants. :p

Well, he did fake getting hit in the face, but what actually happened was that Puyol elbowed him in the chest...which is (surprise, surprise) a foul and a yellow card offence. You'd have something to complain about if Puyol had been sent off. I'm not trying to defend Henry - he of all players should be above such acts - but it was a foul and it was a yellow card.

Yep. They hold British citizenship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Overseas_Territories_citizen).

Ask the people in Gibraltar or the Falklands, and after about twenty minutes of coarse language, they will confirm that.

EDIT: And in the French system there seems to be even less of a division:
