Who do you think is LEAST likely to win the World Cup?

I'd say Ecuador or Ukraine.

Considering no-one even watched the game last year, I'm amazed Australia gotten behind it so much. I even chucked some green on gold streamers onto my mum's Benz.

Australia tends to win a few mediocre games in [insert sport here] and then think they're God's gift to that sport.

To be fair, considering our relatively small population, we do very well in sporting events, particularly the Olympics.

I'd prefer it to not be the case, living in a nation of jocks is only so much fun...but eh.

I have to ask, is there a reason behind all the Australia-hate?

The real outsiders now are Ghana. They would have to beat Brazil, then Spain or France, just to get to the semi finals.
Australia may be outsiders too, but they are in a more physical part of the table, which suits their style. Italy, Germany and Argentina are strong teams, but all teams that have traditionaly imposed themselves physicaly on opponents, which won't work very well against the Aussies.

Boorishness, learn from the mistakes of the US and don't get too full of yourselves. (You have every right to be full of yourselves with regard to the Cricket, but you have a long way to go to earn that right in Football - a message from Brazil)

I don't think thats the case, honestly. Only a few (idiots) seriously believed we had a chance of beating Brazil outright. I think the majority are happy (and pleasantly surprised) that we got this far into it.

I was only answering the question about why the anti-oz sentiment. For me, personally, I think that what Australia has done this world cup has been great, but getting oz fans claiming that they are the greatest is more than a little irritating and pisses people off.

We all know that England are the greatest

Germany and Argentina aren't in Australia's area of the bracket.

Yes they are - at the semi final point. If Australia beat Italy and either Switzerland or Ukraine they will meet the winners of Germany vs Argentina in the semi.

EDIT - I consider the bracket in two halves, not four quarters. Reaching the final is what matters.

Like me?

To be honest, I don't see how it came as such a surprise to people anyways that Australia qualified. Having watched their matches for some time now, I always thought that the team had great potential. They don't have the big name, but they're not that bad. And Hiddink's given them the kick up the bum they needed the whole time.

By the way, did you hear that Australia might try and get the 2018 World Cup? ;)
