WC: England vs Ecuador

Well, before Ecuador's game against Germany, I thought they were doing pretty well. I don't think England should have much trouble though. Thoughts?

Just less than 5 hours till kick off.

Edit: A draw is impossible. Try to ignore this option.

Why don't I like him? Or why would I like to see him not score?

I'm not really sure why I don't like him. Something about him annoys me. I think he is over rated too. I would like to see him not score because he would get really angry and that would be funny to watch.

With the way England have played so far, they don't deserve to win.

Vice versa for Ecuador.

Why bring Theo Walcott? Why???

England by a couple. Ecuador aren't really that great (maybe the weakest team in the last 16), so England shouldn't struggle too much. The first goal should take a while to come - probably in the ten minutes before half time - but after that England will control the match.

That was roughly the same attitude espoused by certain pundits against T & T and Paraguay if i'm not mistaken.... ;)

Yep. I expect Ghana to give Brazil a difficult game. Ecuador traditionally aren't any good away from home - in qualifying they were unbeaten at home in Quito (played 9, won 7, drew 2), but away from home they mananged 5 points (played 9, won 1, drew 2, lost 6). They beat a weak Polish team (admittedly comfortably) and a poor Costa Rica team. So long as England deal with the threat from Ecuador's right wing, they'll be fine.

England do better once they're out of the group stage - they score more and concede fewer.

Assuming the reports from Baden-Baden are correct, and Sven is going to play a 4-5-1, I'm interested in how that will work out. Hopefully Carrick will show us why Manchester United are willing to pay £14m for him.

If Ghana can start strong and not lose any men in the process they probably stand a chance. Quite like Australia vs Italy. The Australians have started (each game) terribly so far.

If Sven plays Carrick in the holding midfield role, then we will see an England team that flows much better than we have seen previously in this world cup. 4 - 1 to England. If, however he sticks with a 4 - 4 - 2 pushing Gerrard forward, then it will be something like 2 - 1.

(I guess I don't like the tactics used to date by England.)

When the half ended they were playing the Stones, Satisfaction, in the stadium in Stuggart. That is appropriate because England hasn't given much satisfaction. They are lucky not to be down 1-nil. England needed to score in the first half, because they aren't going to get any better in the second in this heat.

England has been very unimpressive in this World Cup. If they get by Ecuador, they won't make it past the next round. What a disappointment.

This is not baseball. ;)

Ecuador are managing to do what they want, which is to frustrate England's midfield and attack on quick counters. The question is whether this strategy will pay off in the long run. England's midfield is too good to be shackled for the whole match - one of Cole, Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham will make them pay in the end with a perfectly weighted pass or a piece of trickery.

... the lucky break at the right time that is going to win ...in football.. one shot/call/mistake can kill 4 years of hopes and preparations.. (I think this is true more in this sport.. than in any other)

Most of the time, the Best team does not win the WC.

example: the OJ team was the best team of the 70's (1971 to 1980).. they should have won 1 or 2 World-Cups.

Sod Lampard's luck, he should improve his finishing.

He has been missing more than usual, but 80% of his goals come from deflections anyway. Everyone misses sometimes, and Id much rather he got it out of the way while we're winning anyway. Im glad we're playing the portugalese, apart from that dirty cheat Ronaldo they arent that great, and with Deco suspended it should be easier than Holland.

Also, are the Refs having a contest to see who can send off so many players a match has to be abandoned? There have already been more cards in this tournament than in any other (it said on the news). Some players have been booked for offences that didnt even warrant free kicks, its just stupid.
