I recently re-installed sim city 2000 onto my PC for the first time in years, but its not working right, the gameplay is seriosly slow, and the music doesnt play.

is there any kind of update file, or solution to this problem? i know my PC is up to date enough for an old game like this...

also after bringing up the debug menu it wont let me choose all inventions it brings up some prompt which takes me to the help file.

can anyone help me out with this? or am i still the only lonely bastard still playing this game?

Unfortunately I only ever installed the Amiga version of Sim City 2000, but old PC games sometimes require you to mess with a batch file to set things like memory and sound card addresses. Good ol' DOS, you know.

I suppose you're running XP. Tried running the game in compatibility mode?

Well, you need to make sure it is running in Windows 98 or 95 mode and that you have it set to 256 colors.

yeah i do have xp, and i did not try that. how do you do that again?

I don't remember any since it's been so long. I suggest checking Google to see what turns up; however, I didn't download any patches since I had the Special Edition which included all of the fixes during the 1993-1995 period.

The game should work fine as long as it's running in compatability mode (256 colors+Windows 98/85). I played it for five years until Sim City 3000 came out and I had no problems whatsoever.
