The winner of this game will face off against Germany in the quarter finals.

Who do you think is going to win?

Argentina - Mexico had trouble with the Portugal B team last game.

Score line 3 - 0

Argentina will win by 2 or more. But will lost for Germany in the next round.

Argentina by 2.

Next game will prob be the highlight of the tourny, as we'll be seeing the two best attacking, in-form, teams face each other.

Germany will prob win that one.

I think Mexico will play them close but Argentina will win this one unfortunately. I would love to see a North American team in the next round.

We are about an hour away from this second knockout round game.

The people are already chanting and anxious for this game to start.

I think Argentina will win and want Argentina to win. I know everyone is making a big sentimental deal about Sanchez' dad, but I don't cae for the Mexico team. They love to dive too much and whine for calls too much for my taste

I'm calling the upset, Mexico 2:1

If I had to pick it would be Argentina, they have a reputation to keep against Mexico.

Who cares though, both of the teams will lose against Germany regardless (especially since about half of each team - Argentina or Mexico - will be sporting at least a couple bruises, bumbs, and broken bones, while the other half will be hooked on life support after getting pounded into the ground ;) )

Argentina 2:0

I'm hoping for a face off of the two South American powerhouses in the final.

Argentina 3:1.

But since my predictions are lousy, it probably won't be that. :p

Mexico is doing its best early on but got denied.

Both sides are starting to dig in defensively but they are both still getting very good chances.

Argentina gets a yellow card for that dumb tackle.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 20:47
And that's the half.

The game is tied at 1 apiece as the teams go into the tunnel and form their 2nd half strategy.

Argentina gets a yellow card for that dumb tackle.

Leave Gabi alone, that tackle was bloody intelligent.

Granted, he fucked up, but in bringing Meester. Sombrero down, with Ayala feasibly in coveing range, the referee could only book him, and Mexica were denied a shot.

It was but it should've been a red card and not a yellow but meh.

By rule, the card was the wrong color.

I am sticking with Argentina, hopefully they can pull off the double this morning.

The ref has been lenient on cards and i agree with the yellow for that tackle but it wasn't wrth a red luckily/thankfully.

Not as such, since Heinze did actually go for the ball.

Since the defender that tackled him was the last person back....by rule, that deserves a red card since it would've been a scoring opportunity.

Ayala was behind him.

Going for the ball or not, he was the last defender back and by FIFA rules, if it is a scoring opportunity or going to result in a scoring opportunity, the last player back that takes him down should be sent off.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 21:05
Ayala was behind him.

I guess you didn't see the replay that he would've only had the goalie to contend with so legally, the tackler was the last person back.

Seeing as the ball was off the ground he had to go high to get it he just didn't...

He wasn't the last man. Ayala was behind him, marginally, but behind him all the same.

Still rendering Heinze not the last man.

We can bicker about this but the decision was made and I'll live with it.

Neither side can't get a break as the both lay on the defense to keep this thing notted at 1.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 21:28
Mexico received a yellow card for that hard foul.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 21:34
Crespo has just been subbed out of the match.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 21:43

Corneliu
24-06-2006, 21:49
Wonderful Defense by Mexico to keep this tied. Could this game go into OT? We'll soon find out.
Corneliu

OFFSIDES!!!!

Argentina was offsides and the goal was disallowed.
Whereyouthinkyougoing
24-06-2006, 21:52
Except it wasn't really offside... Oh, Argentina is gonna be pissed. :S
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 21:53
And we are going into overtime.

Rules of Overtime:

2 15 minute periods that will be played in full.
There are no more golden goals.

If the game remains tied at the end of that, then it is off to penalty kicks.

*mutters about no more sudden death*

I agree with you 100%. I do not think they were offsides.

Argentina 2 - 1 Mexico
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 22:22
And a yellow as been given to Argentina's number 3.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 22:28
Another yellow on Mexico but it does not matter as Argentina will probably be advancing to the quarter finals against Germany.
Corneliu
24-06-2006, 22:31

Mexico played a much better game than I expected. I didn't expect them to win, but they sure gave the Argentinians a hard time.

Too bad Borgetti scored against his own goal, otherwise Mexico would have gone against Germany in quarterfinals (again) probably to be defeated there (again).

LOL Home team home.:p
I thought they could have pulled Cambiasso and ah (can't remember his name but it starts with an s) and kept Crespo on and put on Messe

But it paid off in the end.
