Americans, what do you think of European music?
Euros, what do you think of American music?
If your American and have a favorite euro song on youtube, post the link here.
If your European and have a favorite American song on youtube, post the link here.
I'll start it off and say there are quite a few dutch songs I like.
Theres one a Dutch friend sent me...het land van (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp7_RWPPjXE)(basically this is the country of)
Elize is a very good singer and I like her. I also like a few choice Swedish and German songs.

I like some American bands. Quite a few actually. Exactly what do you mean by "American music". Whenever I take a look at the American top 10, I find that I don't know most of the songs, and, if I do know them, I don't like them. But to say that I don't like American music would just be silly.

Thats why I said generally.
Just if you happen to like alot of American music...or if you happen note to.
Its not a rule...just what you usually feel.
What are some of the bands you like?

Dead Kennedys, Anti-Flag, Secret Machines, Tool...eh, can't be bothered to list them all. Most of them are hardcore, punk and metal. But most of what comes out of America is R&B, hip-hop, pop, etc, which just does nothing for me.

British and European music can't be lumped together, they're far too different.

i generally don't think of or recognise that kind of distinction in music i like. if i like it, i like it... full stop (period).
i may know where the music comes from but i wouldn't say i have a preference or that it influences my judgement in any real way (apart from language...)
on balance, i probably listen to more european english music, just because that happens to be where the bands i listen to most come from (though a deciding factor is whether you consider jimi hendrix american music or british... ;))

That's pretty much exactly what I meant. Though looking through my music collection, it does seem rather racist - barely no music by black or non-European or non-American acts. I guess it's because I like electronica and guitar-driven music - which in both Europe and America is dominated by white people.

yup, and don't forget the language problem. i don't much like listening to music in other languages (apart from Rammstein cos its generally simple enough for GCSE german to cover :p)
however, plenty of 'european bands' do sing in english, and i like them fine (plenty of swedish and german metal bands, and i love some hungarian DJs... not that they sing but they sample stuff from english... it counts!)

I'm quite partial to some Scandinavian black metal, and I can't understand a hell of a lot of that. Mind you, I can't understand some metal singers when they sing in English...
Hell, I like Sigur Ros, and they made up their own language to sing in!
European music kicked some major ass until the whole atonality thing. After that, it really went down hill.

I don't know what to call it, but there's some kind of music genre in Europe that I really like which we don't get much of here in the states. The best way I could describe it would be 'industrial rave' or something like that. Basically the type of music you hear playing in a European club in the movies. The closest band I am familiar with that I could put to it would be T.a.T.u., but they are a little to 'pop' for it- it is generally a bit harder.
Anybody know what I am talking about?

I listen to a lot of black metal, neofolk and related genres, as well as a lot of world/ethnic music, and I generally find that if an artist/band is United Statesian it immediately turns me off them. Same if an artist/band sings in English (unless they are English).

I think you mean EBM or dark trance. Check out Front 242, VNV Nation and Wumpscut, and let me know if I'm right.

I like em' both! Pretty much all of the black/doom that I like is overseas (COF & MDB)!!! Most all of the thrash/speed that I like is American (Acid Bath, Exhorder, Testament, etc...Too damn many to name)!!! So, in that respect, I guess it's safe to assume I'm more partial to American! There are quite a few black/doom bands I didn't name but, Im thinking the number of thrash bands would exceed the number of doom bands; if I were to create a comparison list!!!

I've always liked FRont 242, but the stuff I am talking about it a little different. I have never heard any tracks like this outside of a club setting (or a scene in a club in a film), which makes me think it may just be a European club phenomina. The only track I can think of on an album would be the "Scotty doesn't know" Euro version- from the Eurotrip soundtrack. Which I cannot find anywhere OL, so I am unable to post a link.

Anyway, this is just about comparing European music with American so it didnt really make sens to include other people in this poll.

I am a very big fan of Trance and Progressive House, and I am American. Which means I like European music since most of the greats are from Europe.
I love this video.

North of America - Keep it on the download
that song ROCKS! However most American mainstream music is bad. But then, that's true for most Euro mainstream music... Maybe I just like euro music more because I know no American equivalents to tonspion.de and jamendo.com ...
