First and foremost - the United States did not get into World War II to protect Europe. Germany overran most of Europe in 1939, 1940, and 1941 and the United States did not send in the troops to do anything about it. The U.S. got into World War II ONLY after being attacked by Japan and after Nazi Germany declared war first.

Countries fight wars for their own self interest. That is why Americans owe France nothing for saving our butts during the American Revolution. King Louis supported the colonies for his own selfish reasons, just like every country does.

So stop whining about the Europeans and stop acting as if they are just long distance states in the American union. Each country acts in its own interests and owes other countries nothing.

I'm not sure who it is you think would not exist, but you should know that the story of the Atlantic Theatre of World War II was mostly the story of the Eastern front and the war between Germany and the U.S.S.R. While it is impossible to tell for certain what would have happened in alternate histories, it is highly probable that the Russians would have defeated Germany (on a longer time table) without direct American intervention. The turning point in the European war was the battle of Stalingrad (not D-Day - the course of the war had already been determined at that point). The Soviets had moved their factories behind the Urals, were receiving economic aid from the U.S., and would have eventually outproduced the Nazi war machine.

Did the Soviets do this to save Europe? Of course not. They fought Germany for the same reason the U.S. did.

How many are dead in Europe? Well, I'm not certain, but if it makes you feel better, there is a department commissioned to bring them all home.

Why are they there to begin with? Well, WW1, as some people have said, the Kaiser tried to get Mexico to invade, (shrug) and sank a number of ships you were using to sell arms to Britain.

WW2? If I remember, the US tried it's darndest to stay out of it, but you cut off Japan's oil and scrap metal, so they attacked a military base. I hope I don't have to tell you what it was called...

The Cold War? Heh. Sure it was altruistic. It had nothing to do with the fact that you wanted to contain America's main (pretty much only) rival from expanding in power and influence. Nope. Completely coincidental.

I think most people have ripped apart your beliefs, so I'll just go ahead and say please never call me your brother again. Never assume I approve of what your country's done and is doing, hell you shouldn't even assume I like what this country's doing right now. In fact you'd probably have a pretty safe bet if you just assumed that I believe pretty much the exact opposite of what you believe.

That's the funny thing really. Being a citizen of a country doesn't make me the exact same as everyone else in that country. It doesn't actually give me anything in common with everyone else in the country. Oh well.
