Are your World Cup predictions working out?

So, now that the group play is done how have your predictions worked out?

I missed: the Netherlands, Ghana, Australia, and Switzerland (and technically France, I picked them to finish first, not second in Group G).

I'm still sticking with my same Round of 16 winners:

Germany
Argentina
Italy
England
Portuagal
Spain
Brazil

and adding Switzerland over Ukraine.

I thought Poland would make it from group A and Czech Rep from E. Apart from France finishing second to the Swiss, I was right on the rest of them.

Germany will beat Sweden, England will beat Ecuador, Argentina will beat Mexico, Holland will scrape it against Portugal, Italy will beat Australia, Brazil will beat Ghana (I expect this to be the best match of the round), Spain will beat France and the Swiss will beat Ukraine.

Argentina will beat Germany, Italy will beat Switzerland, England will beat Holland, and Spain will beat Brazil.

Argentina will beat Italy, Spain will beat England.

Winners: Argentina
Runners-up: Spain
3rd: Italy
4th: England

I'm going to stick with the rest of my predictions.

Quarter-finals

Germany over Argentina
Italy over Switzerland
Portugal over England
Spain over Brazil

Semi-finals

Germany over Italy
Portugal over Spain

World Cup Champs

Portugal

I know Portugal is a long shot, but I'm going out on a limb.

I predicted that I wouldn't give a rats ass about the World Cup, and so far, I have been right. I now predict that I will live the rest of my life without ever watching a WC match, and am 100% sure it will happen. (unless I am kidnapped by muslim terrorists who make me watch it as part of their viscious torture methods)

I suck at predictions. All I could manage is who will win the cup.
First, I had Brazil (duh), then I saw how they were playing and went with either Argentina or Germany. Now, after Brazil suddenly got its act together yesterday, I've flip-flopped right back to Brazil.

Meh. I'm rooting for Ghana. :p

I know many people have already booked Brazil's finals appearance, or at worst expect them to get knocked out by one of the traditional powers (Spain, England, or Portugal) in the quarter-finals or semi-finals. But, Brazil should not over look Ghana.

Ghana have a legitimate star player in midfielder Michael Essien and can expect strong leadership from Captain Stephen Appiah. Sammy Adjei has played well in goal, and though Brazil is the #1 ranked team, Ghana has already defeated and knocked off #2 Czech Republic. There is absolutely no pressure on Ghana.

Although it is not likely, they have a real shot at pulling off the World Cup's greatest upset.

I was expecting the Italians to choke and for the Czechs to get stop spot, i think their FIFA World Ranking is BS but they were/are better than how they played they were hit by injuries.

I did wonder after Koller and Baros were ruled out of the Czech Republic's second game where their goals would come from. I still expected them to draw with Ghana though.

Bit gutted Czech Rep. didn't get further actually. Nedved is an absolute legend and this was the last chance to see him at a major tournament.

I picked four teams to qualify, who didn't and in a one case the 1st and 2nd were inverted.

The teams that didn't make it were:
Poland (Ecuador), Ivory Coast (Argentina), Croatia (Australia), Czech Rep (Ghana)

I got Spain and Ukraine the wrong way round.

Now
Quarter finals will be:

Germany vs Argentina
England vs Holland
Italy vs Switzerland (?)
Brazil vs Spain

Then the semis - (This is more difficult)
Argentina vs Switzerland
England vs Spain

Essien is suspended for the game. :(

However it will be the biggest test for Brazil yet. I really don't see them losing, but it will be closer than most people expect (2 - 1 or 3 - 2)

Switzerland to beat Italy? I must say, I flirted with that idea, but I think by then the Swiss will be out of their depth. They had a remarkably easy group - Togo were never going to worry anyone, France are easily dealt with by an organised defensive display, and South Korea really aren't as good as their semi-final appearance at the last World Cup made them out to be.

Italy have enough experienced players to deal with Switzerland, and assuming they play to a standard that we can comfortably expect of them, they should win.

Indeed. As I said in some other thread, Ghana are very good value at 13-5 (3.6) with a one goal start and 10-11 (1.91) with a two goal start.

Well, every team that I was rooting for was thrown out the first round. Except at this point Ghana.
Frankly the teams I've been cheering for (Poland, US, Korea, and Japan), I didn't expect to win, but I expected at least one to get past the FIRST ROUND!:headbang:

Hm, I had 15 out of 48 games wrong, that's not bad for someone who know's not much about football.
Switzerland is/has (?) the only team with no goal scored against. They (we?) are better than I thought.

Ah, I forgot that bogus yellow against the U.S. (even U.S. coach said it shouldn't have been a yellow). This system sucks. It keeps super stars out of important matches for relatively minor offenses.

FIFA needs to look at an alternative penalty system. Maybe something like NHL hockey, where the offender is sent to a penalty box for x amount of time?

The Netherlands will pwn the Portugish, the Englese and whomever they meet in the semi finals. Then they're prolably up against Brazil. But in any case, we'll go through. Anyone who disagrees is an infidel anti-patriot, or if not dutch, a mutant commie terrorist.

Well, that Ukraine win knocked my predictions off a bit. I still got Germany, Argentine, Italy, England, and Portugal right. We'll see if Brazil and Spain move on to the quarter-finals.

Neither Italy, nor Ukraine played inspired futbol/soccer, but I'll go with Italy over Ukraine 1-0 in the next round. As to the rest:

Germany over Argentina
Portugal over England
Spain over Brazil (assuming both take care of business tomorrow)

Well I predicted:

Group A:
Germany
Poland

Group B:
England
Sweden

Group C:
Holland
Ivory Coast

Group D:
Portugal
Iran

Group E:
Czech Rep
Italy

Group F:
Brazil
Croatia

Group G:
France
Switzerland

Group H:
Ukraine
Spain

Round of 16
Germany x Sweden
Holland x Iran
England x Poland
Portugal x Ivory Coast
Czech Rep x Croatia
France x Spain
Brazil x Italy
Ukraine x Switzerland

Quarter Finals
Germany x Holland
England x Ivory Coast
Czech Rep x Spain
Brazil x Ukraine

That is as far as I am willing to guess at the moment.

Green = Right
Orange = qualified but wrong order
Red = Wrong.

Second round matches are completely messed up. But of the six quarter finalists, I have half of them right

Except for Ukraine, they're working out quite well.

I was disappointed to see the Netherlands defeated by Portugal. I wanted them in the quarterfinals at least.

Go Argentina!!!
