We're losing Karzai

Unabashed Greed

That's right, even Hamid Karzai, our man in Afganistan, who has repeatedly praised the Bush admin is coming out and publically expressing his criticizms of the way things are going in his country. You know, the one where the terrorists REALLY were before we let them off the hook and took off for Iraq.

So, the puppet has turned on us? Well that's never happened before!

There's an old saying that runs along the lines of "You can't buy an Afghan warlord, you can only hire him for a while."

I think the thread should end here. You've said all that needs to be said.

Funny thing about nation building, sometimes they don't much care for the builder.

A little criticism doesn't equal 'losing' someone.

And aren't NATO in charge of the Afghanistan situation since Jan of this year? Shouldn't it be a more damning look at their handling?

Probably because they have been let down before.

Since Bush decided to rebuild Afghanistan instead of just bombing the hell out of it he should have been prepared to dedicate a shitload of money and manpower to the job. Instead he decided he really needed to go to Iraq instead. Talk about flip flopping. First he embarks on nation building, then he decides it's not all that important.

Personally I'd have just bombed the crap out of the place and used a couple of nukes to drive the point home, but I'm an ignorant hothead.

Pfft, compare NATO troop numbers to the independent US mission. They are nothing.

Yes.

Compared to 25,000 Americans, it is quite clear who is in charge.

Karzai is just pissed off about nobody doing nothing about the taliban despite the steady killings of Afghan civilians...

It begins innocently, with questions. Then criticism. Then condemnation. Then terrorism. :D

Yes.

Compared to 25,000 Americans, it is quite clear who is in charge.

Considering Canada and the UK only have a fraction of forces the US does, their contribution isn't exactly tiny as a fraction of their troops.

Also, Canada is in command of ISAF at the moment, the US is merely the largest force contributor.

It's the facts on the ground though. When Afghans or the world media see soldiers or aircraft in Afghanistan, chances are, they are American. And so that's where the blame is naturally laid, at the door of the most numerous, most visible part of the occupying forces. I doubt many people in those parts consult a management flowchart before complaining.

It is true that the Canadians and the Brits are taking a lot of heat in AFG.

I truly appreciate their work there.
