Yeah, well. Given all the serious stuff we've seen lately, I thought I'd ask this question that occurred to me whilst drunk.

What are the most enticing, irresistible smells you can think of?

To me, #2 is the smell of fried onions, while #1 is the smell of bacon.

I am enthralled by the smell of gasoline. My friend's girlfriend came in to a dinner we were having one night smelling of gasoline, and I had to force myself to go elsewhere so I wouldn't keep sniffing her.

Incidentally, at, I guess, #3, I Luuuuuurrve, the smell of fish.

Yeah, so I'm weird.

Well, i was gonna say "vanilla, patchouli, jasmine, rain, and sandalwood" ... but given these responses so far, i'll have to rethink it ...

Personally I like the smell of gas, and exaust fumes. But I really like the smell of vanilla ;)

Hmm, the smell of toast really gets me. Well, it's not really so much the smell of toast as the perceived smell of toast. That is to say that my idea of what toast should smell like is appealing to me. Some people's hair stimulates my senses, too. Occasionally, I'll go mad for the smell of a certain food product, but that doesn't happen often enough or with any particular foodstuff for me to pinpoint it.

The smell of old beer you get as you walk past a pub.;)

or some flowering indoor pot plants (oh I miss those days)

Pffft, I've smelled that before. It was bit like ass.;)

WHen I paint with oils, and I have to wash the brushes with white spirits, it's like smelling DEATH, but smells amazing all the same.

Blue Crab, steaming in Old Bay.

My homemade asiago-garlic croutons are reputedly the best smelling thing EVER, according to many among my family and friends.

Personally, I dearly love the smell of hot mulled cider in the wintertime. Mmm.

Honeysuckle. Although magnolia might be a close second. Oh, and fresh brewed coffee.

Favourite smell though? Probably something like baking bread or brewing coffee. Or a lamb roast in the oven.

Also - and another cliche - freshly baked home bread. Indeed pretty much anything good coming out of the oven is bliss to me: Cakes, Roasts, Souffle, pizza, etc etc.

Handmade chocolates are wonderful to smell. Like coffee they have to be top quality. If I can smell vegetable fat, I'm feeling sick. Only pure cocoa butter will do it for me. I can literally feel the serotonin being released in my brain cells when I smell A1 quality darl choc pralines.

The smell of the ocean in the morning, or very late at night. Coupled with the sounds, it's a fantastic feeling. Especially if you're there by yourself, miles away from anyone.
One of the best New Years I've had was walking alone amongst the huge sand dunes at Te Paki smelling and listening to the surf, which is only a few kms from the top of NZ. Nearest house is 20km away. Nearest town is 100km. Watched the moon come up over Cape Reinga (where the Tasman sea and the Pacific Ocean meet) and then wandered down thru the dunes til sunrise.

I love lots of smells.
But the smell that I love best, is that of Kodak film when the pack is just opened. The 110 cartidge stuff. Mmmmm...

I'm not too much a fan of coffee, but close to my old house there's a coffee facotry (its douwe egberts, some of you might know it), the coffee smell coming from there is amasing. I think that beats the freshly brewed coffee and espresso machine thing:)

Whenever I'm driving home with greasy, gross, delicious fried chicken, I can't help but love the smell of it.

In some fairly recent analysis of smells as they applied to human sexuality I remember that the smells of flowers were often associated with arousal, but that the clear winner was the smell of vanilla.

Probably has something to do with the small amounts of vanilla in breast milk.

I also like gasoline (I surreptitiously inhale as much as possible when filling up the car, even though I'm almost sure I can feel my brain cells pop off one by one).

That special kind of male smell which for me mostly included a mix of cigarette smoke and leather jackets. Which smells a lot better than it sounds, honest.

Yes! Your like the first person I've ever met that thinks its comforting too. I don't know why, I've always loved it, and everyone's like "wtf its scary" I just like to sit around on the back poarch durring thunderstorms and watch them, or just close my eyes and lay there. Its weird, because they're like relaxing but invigorating at the same time.

Seriously though, absinthe smells great. I actually bought my girlfriend an absinthe perfume, and she loves it!!

Depends on the type. I love the smell of hash as its being crumbled, but not really a great fan of the taste (probly due to fact that its all soapbar round where i live, so i avoid it like the plague), but I lurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrve the smell of skunk.

Apparently the sense of smell is the sense that is most linked to the memory, definitely true as whenever I 'm walking down the street and I smell a familiar perfume it always reminds me of my Ex who I haven't seen for about 4 years.
