A Nintendo-Microsoft Alliance

I read an idea a few years back. I've been thinking about that for a while, long and hard. The console war is upon us, and Sony and Microsoft are going to fight tooth and nail for sails. Nintendo, however, is staying cool and collected, not really giving a damn about this so called "console war".

Microsoft has seemed very...accepting of the Wii. They don't see it as a real threat, and would rather Nintendo suceed then Sony. Again, Nintendo doesn't give a damn.

It seems pretty obvious here, if you ask me, what the two companies could do to strengthen themselves: combine. Microsoft and Nintendo can both keep their game systems, the 360 for more mature and violent titiles, and the Wii for younger ones. Microsoft and Nintendo can use the same online service. Microsoft and Nintendo could release a joint hand-held that all works as an MP3 and a PDA...the possibilties are endless.

This would kill assure victory in the console war by simply broadening each company's scope and abilities. Hell, eventually Microsoft and Nintendo could simply have one console, using Nintendo's innovate thinking and Microsoft's raw power.

I wouldn't bet on a Nintendo-Sony alliance, however. Nintendo, when the Playstation was going to debute as a program of the N64, refused to allow it. Sony seems much more compentious and threatened by Nintendo. I doubt an alliance could work.

Thoughts?

Nintendo isn't real competition for either Sony or Microsoft in the console market and Microsoft isn't trying to run a competitor in the handheld market so they don't care about Nintendo.

You are probably right, but Microsoft seems to be emphasing multi-media recently. I could see Nintendo being an asset for Microsoft.

I get the feeling that Nintendo would rather go down than merge with anybody. They'd probably be happy going the way of Sega if it came down to it.

Hmm I see your point but I personaaly think Sega is hiding in the shadows like a ninja waiting to strike on the casualties of the console war and produce an uberconsole to wipe away all others

Given the showing of E3 - Nintnedo will destroy all else in the console war this time around.

Microtendo? I think the competition laws in the US would pretty much just kick that right into touch, what with Microsofts less than amicable contact with the law makers in DC so far.

I believe Nintendo's response to M$'s last offer was hysterical laughter and a vow never to merge with anyone.

And try to avoid the 'Nintendo=kiddy" thing. Red Steel anyone?

First you get E to appologise to CE.
Now I see this.

You sir, are a Prince Among Men!

I would love to see this happen. It never will. But I'd like to see this a heck of a lot more than world peace.

[Edit]

Speeling of "among" corrected.
