After reading an article on the BBC news service (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3221499.stm) about earworms, it got me thinking about what my earworms are. So I'd just like to ask what are everybodies earworms? Mine are a "rift" from Beethoven's 9th and "In Christ alone".

There aren't any special ones that get "struck" in my head. I do play music in my head pretty much all the time however. Unless I listen to something, it goes on automatically in the background. (both when I am awake and when I dream, altought I very seldom notice or remember what plays in my dreams. when I dream however, sometimes music I have never heard, composed in real-time by my brain, is played, often things that fit the mood of the dream) Pretty much any music that I have ever heard can end up being "played", altought what I listen to the most is most common. I can however suppress it, change track (between anything I have memorized) or apply effects such as various kinds of distortion, noise, frequency equalization or dynamics compression (the last one is a bit tricky and takes some concentration to get right), and insert pretty much any sample imagineable.

A few weeks ago, after watching an episode of Peter Kay's "Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere", where they featured a dance sketch of "Let's hear it for the boy", I couldn't get the damm tune out of my head for almost a week.

I have a "cognitive itch" alright, but it has nothing to do with music! :D

there is a constant soundtrack in my head anyway, so it's not really like I can pick out one song.

however since music is always going on in my head, I tend to make up songs to help me remember stuff, right now my grocerylist is running over and over to the tune of "Can-Can" (not entirely sure that's the actual name of the song)

EDIT: Can-Can from "Orpheus in the Underworld" - Jacques Offenbach
found a midi of it here (http://www.danshep.net/cancan.mid), and yep that's it. (DO NOT CLICK UNLESS YOU WANT TO HEAR IT!!!)

In the last 3-4 days it's been the song in my signature. It's funny, the tune well known, and it's a "real" Ohrwurm :D
