POMPANO BEACH -- A 19-year-old woman flunked her driver's license exam on Wednesday after she drove a borrrowed taxi-cab into a canal, authorities said.

The woman's neighbor, a Broward Taxi Co. cab driver, took her to the testing agency agency at 2712 W. Atlantic Blvd, city spokeswoman Sandra King said. The cab driver agreed to let the woman practice by herself in the parking lot around 11 a.m.

"He said, 'The next thing I knew the car is going through the bushes and heading toward the canal,'" King said. "The car was halfway submerged. He ran over and pulled her out."

"Needless to say, she did not pass the driver's license test," King added.
Okay, so she's not a driver yet, but she's certainly had an inauspicious start.:p

You think Florida's bad- I can guarantee you people in Idaho are worse. My own home state, Utah, isn't much better. We've got terrible drivers in our part of the country.

For some reason I've got the image of those Honeymooner mice with the wife holding a rolling pin berating the husband, "What are we supposed to do now?" and "I should have married that so and so"...

I think Florida's problem is that no one is actually from around here, so there's no such thing as "local rules" like you have in places where there aren't so many transients. Throw in that a lot of transients around here are from other countries where traffic laws are more to be ignored than followed, factor in the fact that it's heaven's waiting room, and you've got a recipe for fucked up driving.

Same in Vegas (especially with all the alcohol in all the tourists systems)... oh god I have travelled the country and have never seen such law breaking, wreckless driving in my life.

I'm guessing the Phillipines could give it a run for it's money.

Plus, you have alot of old people. I see old pharts cruising at 25MPH on the leftmost lane!

Makes me fearful of driving when I move down thewre next summer...:\

Great, just great...

Tolls, old drivers, cars in canals, what more is there?

Bah humbug, perhaps I should just get a motorcycle.

You haven't driven in India, have you ?

It usually entails a hand on the horn and flashing lights often to signal that you are going to overtake the dirver ahead no matter what....with a good measure of driving on the opposite side thrown in and oh..sharing the road with wandering cattle and suicidal people and homicidal truck drivers..

Driving would never be boring.;)

You're absolutely right, it's the same reason that people don't support the sports teams and are rude. Take the bad drivers (mostly from the Northeast) and throw in tourists that have no idea where they're going.

*pulls a Roethlisberger* I think that the teens are worse than the old people. Atleast the old people have to get tested every year. Watch out for those fantastic love bugs that like to scrape the paint off of your car when you smash into them.

I don't believe that people have to be retested once they get their license.

not even old people? people start losing their eyesight, reaction time and mental faculties as they get older. I have avoided a few accidents with oblivious old people. they will often be travellign dangerously under the speed limit on the freeway as well as surface streets.

I say we need to test them quite often.

If you're looking for unsafe drivers, head to Montreal Quebec, they not only drive 50 above the limit, the majority of the people driving have no regard for others, i.e. who needs a turn signal, they'll know i'm coming when I change lanes. Or I can probably fit between that car and that guy on the crosswalk.

In Florida after a certain age, people have to have their eyes tested.

Lol..

I learnt driving in India and I used to be on the road all the time (job as a service engineer for a trucking company). Oddly enough, I found it fun to drive there, more fun than driving in the US.

I had a German visitor (from a component manufacturing company) who nearly peed in his pants while sitting in the front passenger seat. When we reached the destination, he was too shaken to even light up a cigarette.:p
