I really like smilies, because they can express us.

I like smilies when they are used appropriately. A friend of mine who does psychology told me that up to 80% of communication is non-verbal, coming from tone of voice, body language, etc. I think the figure is a little high but the general principle is sound. When communicating on the internet smilies can act as a replacement for this non-verbal communication. Smilies I approve of in this context are: :) :( :rolleyes: :p ;) :eek: :fluffle: :D :confused: and maybe :mad: although I have never had reason to use it. The rest can be good for a giggle but they get annoying very quickly and have no real purpose.
