No idea. Never played Go.

You should give it a try, it's a very challenging game.

I would say chess, because I've never played GO

They're both good games... Chess is far easier, though, hmm.

Go is to Western chess what philosophy is to double entry accounting.

Philosophy serves no real purpose.
Proper accounting keeps your behind out of the nick.
Not to mention the poorhouse.

I say Go, just because it's much much harder than chess.

Go. It's just... it makes Chess look like snakes and ladders. Orders of magnitude more sophisticated.

Go, all the way. I was in a chess club in high school. Then I picked up Go in college. A 19x19 game of Go is the equivilant of 5 simultanious games of chess (4 corners plus the center). A 9x9 game is a knife fight if a phone booth.

And even better, Go is a striped down pure and sublimely elegant game. The rules are the very definition of simplicity, but the strategy takes a lifetime. It is of note that current computer software (Deep Blue et al) can compete with the top chess pros, but not with middling Go pros.

For those who haven't played, I reccomend http://playgo.to/interactive/index.html - it's an excellent and fun onlinew tutorial that teaches the very basics.

That's an excellent webpage to learn the basics. Shame more people haven't played Go or they'd never suggest chess is superior.

Yep, some of the Go matches you can watch on (Asian) TV is like watching an art piece being completed. It just...takes my breath away. *sighs*

Funny you should mention that. The "Igo/Shogi" channel is a favorite of mine.
