That's right...I have a song stuck in my head.

Sadly, it's rather obscure.

I haven't seen the show for at least a decade...yet somehow I have the theme to SeaQuest DSV (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106126/) stuck in my head.

I ask you...HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN???

Also, in an effort to distract my brain, a question...

What's the worst/oddest/most obscure song that you have had stuck in your head?

The 100 Acre Wood theme from Kingdom Hearts.

And at first I thought this thread was going to be about a militant athiest ranting and raving about religions.

Yep.
When i was a young'n my mom thought it'd be good to put the oldies station on to distract me, and one song came on at the same time of day every day, the same time as i was supposed to be doing something but was always w/in the proximity of the radio:
The Happy Organ.

The song drove me fucking crazy. *no censoring*
I'm serious. I would be up for hours TRYING to think about other things, and when i finally managed to get it out of my CONSCIOUS mind, it would sit in the back and toot away while i was trying to do other things.
This went on for years.
Then, due the divorce, i moved ... didn't hear it for another 10 years or so.
Then i heard it again and FREAKED out.
Right now, i can hear the beginning of it, but i distract myself instead with (currently) the theme for The Greatest American Hero.

Hum the tune for me i think i remember it.

The weirdest would be Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo by the The Bloodhoundgang i got it stuck in my head as i was about to bat in a cricket match, it was really off putting but it distracted me enough to get some runs.

The theme to I Dream of Jeannie stuck in my head every now and then. Don't know why.

I find that in the same way that vanilla is a prime smell that will override other smells, Girl From Ipanema will get stuck over all other songs. If a song is stuck in your head, start humming that and it will replace it.

EDIT: Speaking of I Dream of Jeannie, I just wanted to point out this dodged bullet. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0415863/) I like the comment about the status of the film:
This project has been "stuffed back into the bottle."

This song from the cartoon Arthur. There was this episode where there was this holographic band named Binky, who were spraypainting their band logo all over the school yards, had this song that all the kids loved. It had no words, it was just someone going "we-o,we-o,we-o" over and over again.

If you're speaking to me regarding the SeaQuest theme...I have neither a mic, nor speakers, so I fail to see how I can fulfill such a request.

Hang on, maybe I can find a clip of it online somewhere...possible edit coming.

EDIT: This site has a bunch of MIDI files...not exactly the same, but should give anyone the general idea.

The weirdest would be Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo by the The Bloodhoundgang Egads. My hate for the Bloodhound Gang burns with the power of a thousand fiery suns, but I'll be damned if that song isn't disgustingly awesome. Although I suspect that's mainly because I saw the video once and loved the singer doing this thing with the scarf.
Really hard to get out of your head, though.

A few summers or so ago, I had "The second you sleep" by Tess (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okTWQ-cqap8&search=tess%20stay) stuck on repeat in my brain for weeks.

The thing is, I got to hear it before it was released in stores and on the radio, so when I had finally rid myself of it, it exploded as a summer hit and was everywhere. *sigh*

Ehh, they certainly are. I generally hear "American Pie" once an hour, and that song that goes "Sheeeeeeeeee dont liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike...that kind of behavior" with similar frequency.

UGH. Even if I found them tolerable once before, i'm now overcome with severe rage whenever I hear them now. :s

Heh i get stuck listening to a radio station that consists of the hit songs of the way played 6 times a day.
And i don't like 85% of the songs they play.
The yhave High School hits which is kind of Old School songs that they used to play 6 times a day before they got played to death but they only sem to play 2 or 3 of them for each year.
Shit i heard 3 No Doubt songs today and a couple of Gwen Stefani songs.

Perhaps I didn't, but if that's the case, then what purpose would it serve me to hum as Harlesburg has suggested? I doubt it will get the SeaQuest theme out of my head, nothing else has (and yes, it's still floating around in there)...

I get songs stuck in my head frequently, but the most annoying time is just before I go to try and sleep.

I´ve had Monty Python´s - Philosopher´s drinking song in my head, Europe´s it´s the final countdown (aaaaaargh!), songs by Abba (greater aaaaargh), and the oh so wonderful techno-ditty "Blue, dabba-dee, dabba-dai, dabba-dee, dabba-dai, dabba-dee-dabbadaaaai" --> there´s true writing artistry for you.

The problem is I have a good good memory for songs, I only have to walk by a radio once to hear some terrible catchy tune and it gets stuck inside my head forever, lyrics included...

Though it helps on stage, it is detrimental for rest on many a night.

Slightly off-topic but I'm sure being distracted whilst batting helps. Which makes no real sense.. But, one time when playing against Stream, I arrived to the game still slightly tipsy from the night before. I felt as if I was going to be sick at any moment. Anyway, I made the fastest 50 I ever have and was home by 3pm to throw up.

As for tunes getting stuck in my head.. I don't think about it or the process starts.... Slippery slope you see.
