Oh boy, I'm really sorry for what I'm about to say - but I don't think I consciously *know* any famous Canadian (will after clicking the link, hopefully).

Sorry. :S

ETA: Oh, wait, wait, I know! Michael Ondaatje! Whew, that was close.

*Sigh* See, that's why I said "consciously" in my post. Because it was pretty much a given that there were quite a few Canadians I would, in fact, know, like the ones you just mentioned. Doesn't mean they'd come to mind as "Oooh, famous Canadians!"

Actually, I'd guess that not too many people even know that the latter two are Canadian. (I did. Yay me)

Tommy Douglas did a lot for the country, but I really don't think he deserves the title of the Greatest Canadian. John A. Macdonald and Pierre Trudeau both did a LOT more than Douglas did.

*note: I am Canadian. Therefore, my opinion doesn't count on this thread. :(

WellI could mention a few people who do deserve the nomination for Greatest Canadian, but instead I won't. I'm feeling a little bit, I dunno, self-centered today so I'll say me. Yes, I know, you can't believe I'm only the Greatest Canadian. I would have said Greatest Person Ever, but if I did Baby Jesus would shit his diaper, so I'll stick with Greatest Canadian (mind you that's not without its downfall because now God kicks a puppy everytime somebody mentions me, or my greatness.

And who the heck is Tommy Douglas?
The founder of universal health care in Canada. A member of the NDP and a past premier of Saskatchewan.
