Anyone know the FIFA World Cup 2006 theme song that they play during the World Cup coverage on Rogers Sportsnet/TSN here in Canada? Its an orchestral piece with a choir ensemble. I dunno if they play it elsewhere in the world... but it sounds so cool!!! I want to know what its called!!!!

I don't know what they are playing in Canada but over here we're getting a lot of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" which is the EU's party piece.

Damn, we had a World Cup song thread before, and I posted in it, but I can't find it.

Anyway, I think (hope) you mean this one (http://www.aol.de/index.jsp?cid=391571635&sg=Musik_special_Groenemeyer) (don't click "Download" but the small "Video ansehen" link a bit further down).
It's called "Zeit, dass sich was dreht" and is the official World Cup hymn, plus the video is really great, so watch it!

Writing and lead vocals by Herbert Grönemeyer, probably the most famous German pop singer.

ETA: Oh, duh, I re-read the OP and this totally not what you were talking about, I'm afraid. *note to self: reading helps*
But I'm still going to leave it in, just so more people watch it. :p

This song is presented as the official FIFA World Cup Song 2006 in Germany:

It's by Herbert Grönemeyer who has recorded it in German, English, and French.

That the one?

And I have to admit, I haven't heard "Ode to Joy" a single time - and I have yet to miss a match.

And Whereyouthinkyougoing was a tad faster.

Okay, so if this is now the replacement for World Cup songs - here's more:

1) Check out my sig. Bob Marley sends his regards :p

2) German hip hop about the German team:

3) Crazy stuff. It is said that even if you have 2 o/oo you can still remember the lyrics:

What a crappy theme song and a reminder why I hate German. It sounds awful. Especially when sung by Grohnemeier. Eww

It should be International Law that all Soccer events have the Benny Hill theme song playing at all times and the action at 2x normal speed.

It's in German. So it's awful by definition. It sounds even worse than Dutch.

Haha. Well thats alright, I downloaded "Zeit, dass sich was dreht" (the English version), it sounds pretty awesome. But I'm still looking for another theme... if you watch the World Cup coverage in Canada, they use that theme song throughout that... its like a freaking orchestrated piece with a choir ensemble... gahh!! I can't get it out of my head....!!!
