It was so hard to choose only 10. Sorry to you close encounters of the 3rd kind people and halloween fans. If u liked Godfather 2 then just pick godfather 1. Same goes for Rocky but not star wars because empire and jedi didnt come until the 80s.

i can only remember seeing two of those and i found the godfather boring (awaits OMG you philistine you can't be serious type response...) so i vote for star wars. those fluffy things at the end were cool.

You should have included an "Other - specify in the thread" option.

I would've but theres so many good 70s movies that most people would probably choose other, so the results would be skewed. I'm aware that there are many that were left out and i apologize if any of those were your favs. Your still welcome to mention 'em in the thread, but please dont hijack.

American Graffiti gets in but MASH doesn't?
What, no James Bond?
C'mon, the seventies had Sean Connery AND Roger Moore! They were the best James Bonds EVER.
I mean seriously.
*breaks down in tears*
American Graffi because I was 15 and aware of cruising and living in Modesto and a fan of Wolfman Jack when it came out. How could it not hit home?
2nd choice would be Animal House.

Ok, I suppose everyone’s list would be different and part of the reason for “best of” lists is to generate discussion and argument. But, as someone who lived through the ‘70s I am amazed that you have included fluff such as Animal House, Superman (!), and The Warriors, yet left off Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Apocalypse Now, Annie Hall, A Clockwork Orange, Taxi Driver, MASH, Close Encounters, Network, The French Connection, The Deer Hunter, and Patton, all of which are on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest American movies of all time.
Come on. Superman?

Of the one's on the list, The Warriors - turning Xenopho's Anabasis into a story about street gangs in NYC was fantastic.
But my all time fave is Apocalypse Now.

I had to vote for The Warriors - so stylish, and so full of glorius pieces ("Waarrrioorrs, come out to PLAYYYY!" and "Riffs! YO RIFFS!" come to mind).
But my absolute favorite was the original Rollerball with James Caan.

I agree with demented hasters (although this isn't something I'd normally say)

As the "guy above you" (;)), I can say I am not a hamster. Demented is debatable.... ;)

Of that list, Animal House is clearly the best, but as DE pointed out, there are many movies also deserving a nomintation. Such as Mad Max (inspired by that there peak oil thread of course;)

American Graffiti had a super soundtrack
Overall, though I had to go with Star Wars.

My problem with The Warriors was simple: WHY THE SMEG DIDN'T THEY JUST HOP INTO A CAB?!? They seemed to have some strange obsession with public transportation!

Ooh, forgot about that one there. I was thinking Easy Rider should be somewhere on that list, but then I remembered it's from 1969, short one year.
"Deep Throat"
God, that's such an awesome movie D:. That was back when porn was hot.
