Nobody here watching it? France are playing much better than usual. Still forty-five minutes to go, though...

I'm kind of watching it as in the television next to me is turned on while I'm on the computer.

Anyway,
Go Korea!!!!

Hmm....the first half was really disappointing...we were busy defending Henry and Zidane...But I hope Korea will do much better in the second half.

I'm actually rooting for the French... very strange. Though from what I hear they haven't been playing up to potential after the goal.

Well, here it goes, be in for la surprise: The German rooting for France ;)

I predicted a 2:1 win for France - I'm happy as long as France wins by one goal.

This French game is so much better than the last one against Switzerland. The Frenchies had me worried there, especially after their "we didn't score a single goal and went home" last WC.

Good game to watch!

That's how I've been "watching" half of the games so far. :p

*looks around his one-room-apartment*

The only way I couldn't watch the games would be
a) to stay in the bathroom (why?)
b) on the balcony (nah!)
c) have the tellie off (and how likely is that?!?)

First time the French fans make themselves heard if I'm not mistaken.

BTW, did anyone notice the rooster (didn't wanna say "cock" :p) some Frenchman somehow got into the stadium?

True (except I have no balcony). I have a kitchen and a hallway though, but still. But "watching" games this way can lead to things like thinking the Aussies play in all black *cough*.

Yeah, was wondering about how he got it in. *is immediately reminded of the "budgie smuggler" that came up in the "Turn-offs" thread last night :p*

Huh. 1:1 after 80 minutes. Great goal, too!

Now we definitely need to see the French team score another one and hopefully meet my prediction.

ALLEZ LES BLEUS, dammit!

Man, the French game blows big time!

Congrats to South Korea, they've played a tremendous game. They've already shown that they're a force to be reckoned with during the last WC in South Korea and Japan.

Damn it, damn it, damn it! Two points in two games; utter rubbish! They were playing better than last time, but not nearly well enough. And Zidane's definitely past his prime; how many times did he lose the ball this game? Since he's suspended against Togo, this was probably his last ever match with Les Bleus.

Still, to be honest it was 2-1. That was a goal. I'm not blaming the referee (who couldn't possibly have seen it) but on replay it was definitely a goal.

Anyway, thanks for those who were supporting France... Let's hope they don't suffer a 0-2 thrashing against Togo now. I wouldn't be surprised... Or a third consecutive draw, just to rub it in...

That's probably true. Say, how many of those on the team were playing in '98 and '02?

Oh shit! I totally forgot about that. Yes, I believe you're right! (Even more troublesome since I did say 2:1!) :headbang:

Mmh. I'm not sure if I should go with France again on the third game :(
What happened to the French football I know and admired? Did it really grow that old?

It's his last ever match period. IIRC he is retiring from football completely after this World Cup.

I can't believe they don't have an officail who can review decisions on video like they have in Rugby - it really is astounding that the result is 1-1 when France clearly scored 2 goals.

You know, that would be the only thing that could really improve things. If the referees on the field can't make the call, why not let the 4th official give them a hint via radion after he's seen the replay(s). Sure, it would maybe take a minute but if it rules out bad calls like this one, I don't see a reason why not to use it.
Xandabia
18-06-2006, 23:26
and let's face it that was a very bad call. i think it would also help in the did-he-dive-or-was-he-fouled situation.

Even if refs don't look at replays, you'd think at least one of the TV cameras would be facing straight down the goal line to catch these things for everyone else's benefit. (Well, maybe stations I wasn't watching had such shots, but US coverage didn't. *grumble*)

One station here creates a computer image of the questionable situations after the game and rotate it to the different angles. At least they could show that the refs couldn't see or couldn't make the call (blocked line of sight etc.).
Anyway, have a good one - I'm off to bed now!

Zidane, Barthez and Thuram were definitely there in '98, as were, I think, Trezeguet, Vieira and Henry. From what I recall, Wiltord only joined in 2000, for the European Cup, but I may be wrong. I've got an appalling memory.

Oh shit! I totally forgot about that. Yes, I believe you're right! (Even more troublesome since I did say 2:1!) :headbang:

Well then, you predicted correctly. ;)

I think so, yes. :( Six years ago they were still unstoppable. Now... Well, you've seen for yourself.

We did get the replay over here, several times and from every possible angle. As long as video checks aren't used for refereeing in cases like these, we'll continue having situations where a team that's won a game ends up with a draw instead of the win and three points it should have had.
