one of my favourite memories is playing with some toy cowboy new cap-guns i got one christmas, when i was about 7, with my dad on the beach on boxing day. don't remember any specifics really, just remember him and i laughing and having fun.

also there's the memory of our 2 week long road-trip up and down california we did together when i was 17... that was such a great holiday - real exploration, getting to know more about each other as people and not just father and son, and just being together on a personal level for that long without work getting in the way (even though it was in-part a business trip and we had to do interviews and work and things, it was still great fun :))

i love my dad :)

Budweiser (of all companies) has the greatest fathers' Day commercial playing right now. To set it up, they are running a recent group of commercials asking celebrities who they would have a Budweiser with if they could with anybody, the first one I saw was Spike Lee, who stated Jackie Robinson, it showed some really neat Jackie Robinson highlights. However, the new commercial:

Joe Buck, announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals is sitting in a bar, they ask him the same question, "Who would you have a Budweiser with if you could have one with anybody? (paraphrasing) and the exchange is something like this:

"I would choose the man that took me to see my first Cardinal game.. He was a great speaker, and people would come from miles around to hear him talk... But my favorite thing about my Dad, is that he was a great listener"...

In the background you could see pictures of Jack Buck, the great announcer of the Cardinals that died in recent years, he was a fan favorite, and an outstanding human being in general. Baseball greatly misses him, and the commercial is very emotional...

It then plays some sound bites of Jack Buck, with a few more pics, before wishing a Happy Fathers Day to everyone.. I think it may be my new favorite commercial.

Happy Fathers Day Jack Buck, we miss you....

Thanks!

I think my worst and fondest memory of being a Dad (so far) are the same thing. The birth of my first. I had absolutely no clue what to do or how to be a father, but that tiny, screaming creature I was holding was the single most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my life.

I thought I knew what love was all about until my first was born. I was wrong. Love is something far more wonderful and painful than you can imagine before you have a child.

I was all at once terrified and elated. I would not change it for the world.
