It's in my sig, and I am tired of explaining it. There have been several threads on the topic- but the short, short version: the term "USian" is used specifically to insult Americans. Even if you just use it because it is shorter, that doesn't excuse the original intent. I, and several other people, firmly believe that it is NO different than calling someone of African ancestry a '******'. So I do not deal with people who use that term. If you wish to debate the 'merits' of your token anti-American slang, do so in one of the threads dealing with it, because I have no wish to debate it again.

No it isnt. It is used because the word "America" alone also refers to the continent. Canadians, Mexicans, Nicalagmians, Hondurans etc are also American. USian is to distingush between continental identity and national identity of American

Perhaps not in English, but at least in Spanish (and possibly more languages as well), the word "estadounidense" exists to refer to people from the US. It effectively translates into "Unitedstatean", which if abbreviated could be "USean".

We Americans have no problem with Columbians calling themselves Sud Americanos (South Americans). Or if they joined the Union, becoming Americans.
There have only been two kinds of Americans: United States of America citizens and (briefly) Confederate States of America citizens.
Unless we start calling Germans "Bundesrepubliks" to differentiante them from Austrians, some Swiss and other ethnic Germans living in Europe. A United States (Union of States) is what Americans belong to, not some vague continental slang.

Vague? No. Americo Vespucci named the continent "America" long before the United States existed. And no, the US seized the name "America" for themselves. Your analogy with Germany, Austria and Switzerland is flawed, since there's really no connection. The ethnic race is Germanic, not German.

What? American football? That sport is for pussies. Canadian football is clearly a better game. American football is all about looking good for TV land, with long passes to nancy little recievers and stuff. Not only that their players need 4 downs to move the damn ball ten yards? Canadian football kicks ass. All we care about are broken bones, blood, teeth left in the field and all that stuff. Real football. For men.
But of course this is about European "soccer" football vs American football. Seeing as I played soccer for like 7 years or so a long time ago you'd think I'd have some sort of bias. But I don't. I don't really enjoy soccer to much anymore. I'll play it every once in a while, but other than that I don't do much about it.
So I guess that leaves me with no vote. I don't really care one way or the other for soccer. And I can't bring myself to vote for American football, a sport as weak as their beer might I add. So yea...

Well for one, that is a horrible question. I never did say the USians were the best at playing football. I will try and explain as to why the NFL and the USA are the two things that really come to mind when the word football is mentioned however.
See, it's because there are only 35 million Canadians to watch the CFL, where there is 300 million Americans to watch the NFL. Do the math. The NFL is bigger, caters to more fans, makes more money, has a greater selection of players, and can afford to pay those players. As well it has a huge number of teams. But being big and full of money doesn't always make a sport good, as in this case. But because it is big and full of money, people assume its good when really they're just having their money taken while they could be watching a real mans sport (like Canadian football).

I picked the last one:
Three old guys are about ot die, but God says 'No more room in Heaven', which isn't cool. So God strikes them a deal. If they jump off a cliff, say what they want to become, they will be reborn as that form when they reach the ground for their next life. The three old men readily agree.
The first one runs and jumps off, and says "Lion" and he becomes a lion when he hits the ground, and runs away. The second guy runs and jumps, and says "Eagle" and he becomes an eagle and flies away. The third guy runs, but halfway through trips and plunges forwards and is about to land on a group of jagged rocks. "Aw, shit."

USAmericans are the best in the world at playing American football because no one else in the world plays it remotely seriously. Unlike real football, whose world organisation, FIFA, has more members than the United Nations. There's a reason why it's called the World Cup.

Interesting POV. Half a year ago I met guy from Costa Rica. Till then I called citizens of USA for Americans (easily and mostly understandable). However, this Costarican explained that calling USian for American is not nice for the rest of two Americas, as seeming that only USA is of any significance on these two continents. Not appropriate.
