I met my sisters new boyfriend yesterday and it turns out he's scared of cheese, he has a special route around the supermarket so he can avoid the cheese counter and his mum has to make him special cheeseless pizzas, so i was wondering do any of you have or know sombody that has a weird phobia?

None as weird as that... I've met people with arachnophobia, claustrophobia, homophobia and xenophobia. But cheese? No...

I used to be afraid of plants. I still have a slight dread in the back of my mind when I have to handle plants, especially recently cut ones. Weird because I used to like to find and identify plants when I hiked. I also used to read up on medicinal and poisonous plants.

Come to think of it, I used to have a friend who would fall down when you scared or suprised her.

Seriously.

You turned around a corner and say "Booh!" and she scream, threw her arms up, and fell down backwards. She didn't do it for show either, it made for a couple of pretty embarassing situations.

Oh, yes, there's one strange thing I'm scared about. I can't sleep in a room with open wardrobe doors or drawers.
The window can be open (has to be, actually), the door can be open, but if the wardrobe's open that freaks me out.

I'm dead scared of dogs, but that doesn't really qualify as a weird phobia.

Someone I work with is afraid of peanut butter though. He gets really nervous whenever he's in the supermarket, and opening a jar of the stuff can scare the heck out of him (or so it did when I found out).

What's that thing about heights where one feels uncomfortable with 5+ meters off the ground?

That one I have. I really don't like those staircases like on the Eiffel-Tower where the stairs don't have a "backwall" but you can look straight through them. Or those gratings on the fire escape (2m till I'm on the concrete stairs where I may have a smoke).

Other than that, I'm really not fond of snakes, huge (like tropical) spiders, and scorpions - not really scared of them, just a certain unease attached to them.

A very good friend of mine is afraid of fish. He can, however, eat it if A) it no longer looks like a whole fish, and B) he didn't see it being prepared.

I wouldn't count it as a fear exactly, but I get very uncomfortable when it's quiet. I need some kind of noise to be able to focus on anything but the lack of noise. I am, however, afraid of heights when there's no railing or glass to keep me from falling. Ladders, and cliffs, and steep hills (there are quite a few hills around here that just drop around 5 metres down, in a metre or less of horizontal, making for a very steep fall with no railings or anything :( ) are a BIG uncomfortable situation. It doesn't take much height for me to start flipping out, either. My uncle's parents' (he's my uncle by marriage to my aunt-by-blood) cottage has a porch that goes up about 1.5-1.75 metres off the ground and no railing, and I get freaked out when I have to walk along the edge of it. ^^;

My friend is scared of small dogs, the smaller the dog the more scary it is. Big dogs don't bother her at all, she thinks bigger dogs are cute.
Although I still find it amusing when walking to school she comes running down the street yelling. All because some lady's little dog got out, followed her, and barked at her the whole way. This tends to happen at least once a week. It scares her, but brightens my mornings.
No real phobias of my own though, at least I can't think of any.

I've never had any phobias. I was scared of spiders for a long time, since I was bitten on my right eyelid by one when I was two years old. That fear's since turned into a respect of sorts.

Bees and wasps. When I was young, a wasp crawled all over my face while I was at a zoo or something at Burton-on-the-Water, near the penguins. I had to stay still for what seemed an age until it flew off.

Just the other month, a wasp flew into this room (for those in the UK, I'm in the 'box room' of the house right now), I screamed, ran out the room, and hid under my duvet telling my younger brother to go get it. I'm laughing thinking about it, but I really don't want it to happen again.

I totally agree with you!!!

But for me, it is not actually a phobia: it is mere disgust.

My worst phobias concerns bridges above water. A bridge above land is fine, water is fine, but a bridge above water toooootally freaks me out and makes me want to cry (anyone ever drove into Edinburgh from the North, when you have to cross that huge bridge?: I nearly had a nervous breakdown when driving across it. The same goes for the old bridge in Grafton, NSW, Australia, if anyone knows it)

And clowns. Clowns are scary. Seriously...

I have a few weird idiosyncrasies. One of them isn't so much a phobia as it is... well, I don't know. All I do know is that I can't stand it when somebody desecrates potatoes. Agh, don't throw them in the trash, put them in the fucking ground!

Next is my irrational fear of thinking. I enjoy delving into intellectual concepts, but I fear that if I think when I have no profound ideas to work on, I'll imagine something quite fearsome. And then I can't go anywhere without having to keep a constant three hundred and sixty degree surveillance. Sometimes more, if I can't see the ceiling without looking up.

Now, the other one, in light of my last sentence, is reverse vertigo. I can't stand being near the ground. In fact, I am suspended from little cables, sixteen feet into the air, as I type this. It's really inconvenient at times, but I would rather be up here than down there where all the germs and flying dogs are.

Edit: Ah, I can't stand the presence of felt, either. If I'm anywhere near felt, I get that feeling of scratching felt in my fingertips, and it's damn annoying. Thing is, then I have to scratch the felt. Go figure.

I also have this thing where I can't stand paper being unused, especially if it's of a unique colour or texture. Moreso if bound. Also, one cannot begin to fathom how much I despise damaged paper. If somebody is tearing paper from a notebook or something, then hands it over to me, I will look at them in disgust and say something along the lines of "We don't want your bourgeois paper here!" No joke. It happens often enough to the point where at least one other person has to have noticed.

My wife has two weird fears.. The first has been mentioned already- high bridges! Yes the Forth Road Bridge into Edinburgh REALLY freaks her out too. She has to close her eyesand she will shuffle down the seat so she can only look up. This can be a real bugger if she is driving. ;) I have to drive over the bridge even if it means stopping in the layby just before it to change driver!

Her other phobia- the crane fly (or daddy long legs). Just one of these in a room will induce absolute hysteria and panic on a scale not seen since Vesuvius erupted over Pompeii. I can't see why as they have no mouthparts and will be dead in three days after hatching. I've tried explaining this to her but it hasn't helped. :headbang:
