I'm currently writing a screenplay for a low-budget (extremely low) Independant film that my friends want to make.

it's basically a romantic comedy about a shy Geek winning love.

the problem, the Main Girl is in an abusive relationship that she just doesn't have the strength to break away from. While Physical Abuse is there, it's more mental abuse.

I need a catalyst to get the Geeky hero to go and rescue his new Girlfriend from her abusive Boyfriend.

something like he's going to prevent a wedding...
or AB [Abusive Boyfriend] is taking Girl away with him when he moves away
or AB is going to seriously beat Girl when he finds out she's been seeing someone else [Geeky Hero]. (if so, need to find out how he finds out.)
or... well do you have any ideas?

Yes: change the bloody main theme completely. That theme is so overdone in so many ways in so many forms it is just sickening, to be absolutely frank. (I'm not trying to insult you here. You'd probably make a damned good version. It's just that there are so many that I think you guys would be better off with a slightly more original idea.)

GH discovers AB is cheating on MG. He gets AB to brag about it while MG is within earshot.

actually, it's a parody or retelling of another story, so yes, the theme is overdone, but we are adding a different element that is rarely used in romantic comedies... or at least I've never seen them used. ;)

The hero tells the girl he believes she is in love with him through msn. She decides to run away.

would you preferre a fight scene at the end or one without a fight?

considering our budget, I don't think we can afford that amount of chocolate or even one topless gal. :D

I'll see, but considering they want to release this on our independant film festival... I'll see if I can get a DVD copy or something.

While AB is grappling with GH he is overcome by lust and fiercely kisses GH, thus revealing his closeted sexuality and the source of his conflicted hostility towards MG.

Freed of his secret, he actually turns out to be a more likeable character and conveniently removes himself as romantic competition to GH.

And understood about the DVD issue. I figured that's the way it would be, but that it also couldn't hurt to ask.

Maybe the GH & AB know each other OL but don't realise until it's too late.well... the original Idea is that AB knows who GH is online because of what MG said to him. thus he has an advantage over GH.

and actually, posting here gave me some ideas I can use...
