I really see no problem with it, especially with big concerts but why does everyone bitch about it?

I dunno. It seems to be government once again protecting big business at the expense of an every day joe's access to the free market.

Because it drives up ticket costs making it more difficult for some people to be able to afford to go.

Also it reduces the consumer surplus, essentially the amount of money you save- this is determined by comparing the price you would have paid, vs the price you did pay.

Say you were willing to pay 200 for a ticket. The price is 100. You buy a ticket and save 100. If a scalper sells you the ticket for 150, then your surplus is only 50.

Meaning you saved less money, which sucks.

Because of all the blood and the permanent loss of hair. :(

i think everyone did. i was going to say i prefer shrunken heads to scalping. but yeah what the guy is really talking about i dont have any problem with that.

there are 2 kinds of scalping

one is where you buy a couple of tickets to your gf's fav boy band's concert. you break up with her and none of your guy friends want to go to this concert with you. so you sell the tickets for what is the then going rate. you make a nice profit

you and you buddies pool your resources and buy 1000 tickets to this boyband concert with the sole intent of reselling them for a huge profit. because of the popularity of this band you know that you will be able to sell them for 3 times what you paid.

the first is fine. there is no reason to not make a profit off of dumping that bitch (why were you dating a girl with such bad taste in music anyway?) the second is profiteering. you (and others like you) artificially restrict the supply of tickets and drive the price up on the secondary market. this is against the law in most places and it should be.

Don't bother, I made a nice post about the economics of scalping and no one even noticed.

It hurt terribly. In fact, I cried myself to sleep last night, and apparently spilled some beer on my carpet.

It hurts a lot, and the whole thing is a bloody mess. And when you get to hospital, you have a lot of explaining to do.
