New Theory on Accidents

I was watching one of those funny videos online, and it struck me:

People don't have accidents unless someone has a camera (still or video), or is watching.

I mean, think about it. Every recorded or witnessed accident has been documented in one way or the other (if only passed on by oral account), and for the self-reported accidents, we only have the reporter's account, and they have every reason to lie about what happened.

So, I wonder if the proliferation of CCTV cameras, especially in crowded city centers and highways, is an actual danger.

I mean, look at the red light cameras. Accidents happen there anyway, because you have people all looking at each other - now add a camera, and I'm sure the odds don't go in your favor.

This merits further investigation. Does anyone have any ideas on what we could study to verify this effect?

This is a strange variation on the question 'does a falling tree in a forest...' etc. :p

People do stupid things on camera in the hope of becoming famous. Just look at all those Pop Idol spin offs.

Well, Schroedinger did say something about it.

After all, until we actually look at the cat (i.e., there is a witness), the cat is supposedly fine.

I mean, your threads exist, but do you?

*thinks about writing a program that composes posts*

Yes it does.

Well, it makes sound waves, but nothing would be around to convert them to noise.

Maybe cameras emit rays of evil stuff that goes inside people infecting them to choose evil over good.

I thought the question was does it make a sound, not a noise. I guess it could be either. I'm pretty sure that's not the point.

I think it depends on your interpertation of "sound." Is sound simply sound waves, or does it mean the sensical perception of sound waves?

I don't belive that cameras have a dierect effect on people like "emmiting evil rays,or something like that" but people want to be on TV so they act retarted and purposefully get in accidents to put themselves on TV like,Evil Knievel

Yeah. Oftentimes people will stage accidents just to get on television.

Without perception, they are not sound, they are just vibrations. In space, there is no sound, because there is nothing to transmit the vibrations from place to place. When no one is around, there is nothing to convert those vibes into something heard.

It's pretty much like any time a business goes from a paper-based system to a computer-based system for accounting: the number of errors goes up. It's not that the amount of errors goes up as much as is the ability to find them becomes easier.
