I had read some time ago about the growing population in North Africa driving unemployment very high, and I've read about the cross-Mediterranean migration pressure, but I didn't know it was to this extent.

If you're having all the men in town leave to another country to find work, there's something wrong with the town or country you live in.

Laissez fait border control worked for thousands of years, and it would work again if people did not insist on fearing the 'other'.

I say we build a tunnel under the Med, anyone who wants to come can come, and anyone who wants to go can go. Afterall, about 50% of Africa's problems are our fault anyway.

yeah, it's pretty bad, lot's of people from sub-Saharan Africa too.

Same thing happens in many towns in Mexico. Nothing but women and children too young to make the trip north. Nicely kept streets, though, and a good number of small businesses. Some of them do well enough that the husband goes back to help with it.

I don't care whose "fault" it is. As far as US policy goes, we should allow anyone who can demonstrate that they have a viable job (and is not a felon, etc) to stay here.
