So, saying that the hip-hop lifestyle is bad = racism? Wow, way to help fight stereotypes of blacks, guys.

Racism is becoming the same word as fascism. If you're arguing with a person of political correctness, and they run out of ideas, they call you one or the other - the argument is then over, as you have to waste time defending yourself against the inane accusation.

Don't worry, they also use the word "Christian" as the same word.

No no DK, good hip-hop does exist. Just not from the likes of Jay-Z.

And just what the hell is the hip hop lifestyle? Hip hop is music. Thats like people saying punk rock is a way of life.

Jay-Z is the proprietor of the hip-hop lifestyle and any attempts to play it down costs him money.

Cristal's position only really hurts Cristal so kudos to them for fighting the good fight.

Not enough to be a judge of whether good hip hop/rap does or does not exist. I doubt your kids listen to anyone you couldn't turn on the radio at any time of the day and hear.

Would you please point out where in the article does Jay-Z call the makers of Cristal racist?

I've read it three times already and nowhere can I find any references towards race whatsoever.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it: "I view his comments as racist and will no longer support any of his products through any of my various brands including The 40/40 Club nor in my personal life."

Yeah, he's being kind of dumb. If someone doesn't like something, well, he/she doesn't like it, that's it.

Wikipedia will suffice.

This is soon going to turn into a rap/hip-hop sucks thread because all people ever do is turn on the sell-out radio stations and listen to the same shit over and over from no talent fucks. Too bad nobody judges every other genre by the same measure.

They're relatively big in the UK. Personally I'm sick of the buggers, you can have 'em.

There is good hip hop (mostly underground or old-school) but pretty much everything on the radio is crap.

(Mind you I'm torn about some of it, Candy Shop was a shite song but in some ways I like the idea behind it...)

No, by my understanding, they're electronica, but I haven't heard everything they did.

I pity you if your kids listen to the mainstream shit; but there is a lot of good hip-hop beyond that - the same with pretty much any other genre.

I've never heard the Chemical Brothers played on the radio.

That's because they're aging. It was fairly common to hear them on radio over here back in the mid to late 90's.

Hm; that's not entirely true, I hear the same comments about rock from people who listen to mostly hip-hop.
Deep Kimchi

Ah, that's probably why I like them. I like the old house music, trance, electronica - as long as it has a beat.

Hmmm;

Try looking for the track "Taxes are Stealing" by Corporate Avenger...it's a mix of electronica and hip-hop, and I get the feeling you'll appreciate the lyrical content of that one. (maybe not much of their other stuff though) :p

No, it has already turned into a Hip-Hop discussion, when the initial topic is clearly over "loaded speech" and buzzwords like fascism and democracy ;)

Exactly. I mean if people thought that way about classical music, they'd think that all of it is soft, quiet, easy-listening comfort music. OH WAIT THEY DO ALREADY.

Rap gets it hard, but generally speaking most people judge musical genres based on less than all the facts.

i cant say that i blame the cristal man for not wanting to be associated with "bling". the tastes of the nouveau riche comes and goes, they dont know the difference between good and expensive. high end champagne is a high class commodity and it wont help long term sales to be associated with crass men drinking your product straight out of the bottle in the back of a limo.

its not so much racist as it is classist.

The Chemical Brothers are labeled electronica (IMO a crap designation, gathering most of the electronical music in the same bag) today, but back in the nineties the genre was called big beat.

The "hip hop lifestyle" is what is wrong with black americans.

They wont ammount to anything while they embrace this vulgar, know-nothing mediocrity.

The idea that I, or any other self respecting employer would ever hire some babbling buffoon wearing clothes that didnt fit and women's jewelry is laughable.

If someone cant be trusted to dress or behave decently, he cant be trusted with anything.

The question for me for music is: is it good to fuck to?

You do have five kids, right? Maybe you should be on a strict diet of William Shatner's music and the Rent soundtrack in order to prevent any more children from happening. Seriously, if listening to Gunther (or any other similar music) causes babies, it might not be a bad idea to slow down your musical preference...
