Bruno the Bear terrorises Alps

You may remember a thread ages ago about a bear which killed a few sheep. Well, after many more sheep, birds, rabbits, a car accident (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,421524,00.html) and so on and so forth - it's still around!

They now called in a bunch of Finnish hunters with special dogs to hunt it down. But those can't cope with the heat (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,421257,00.html), and Bruno is firmly in control of the situation.

Bruno's Hunters Getting Tired and Fed Up
By Sebastian Fischer in the Bavarian and Austrian Alps

It's only been a few days since Finnish hunters and their specially trained dogs arrived in the Alps to track down Bruno the sheep-killing, rabbit-munching, bird-chewing brown bear. But already they're tired out, hot and fed up. The furry predator continues to elude them despite being involved in a car crash.

They're hard men. They're cool. They want to catch Bruno. Their bright yellow vests bear the word "Jäljestäja" which is Finnish and means "Tracker". The four Finnish Indians were flown in from Scandinavia at the weekend by the German state of Bavaria and the Austrian region of Tyrol.

Their mission: to use their five tracker dogs to locate the bear who has killed at least two dozen sheep in a rampage through the northern Alps that began in mid-May. Media and local inhabitants call him "Bruno."

I just thought this might be an amusing story for some of you, of Bavarian incompetence. Yes, I said "incompetence".
Consider it payback for that Opening Ceremony. :D

I remember reading something about him a few weeks ago. IIRC, he's the cause of international outrage between the Austrian and Germany, as his original territory's in Austria, and they consider him one of theirs.

-pause for a little search-

Seems his official name is JJ1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_JJ1), and he was originally released in Italy and settled on the German-Austrian border.

Go, bear, go! And I do hope they can successfully re-settle him.

Originally released in Italy? Where was he incarcerated before that?

I'm liking this bear -- though I suppose it'll stop being fun once he eats someone's kid. Depending on whose kid, of course.

Not really sure - probanly for a resrve somewhere. I'll see what I can find...

And yeah, I hope they get him relocated safely before he hurts someone. 'Twould be a shame....

The bear, identified as JJ1, was part of a programme to reintroduce the animals to the Italian Alps. He was last seen on Tuesday on the Austrian side of the border. The bear last month became the first to be sighted in Germany since 1835.

Bavarian officials authorised hunters to trap or shoot the animal, despite an outcry from animal rights activists.

If captured, the bear is to be released in a reserve near Munich, or returned to northern Italy.

But then Consider it payback for that Opening Ceremony. :D you magically made it all well again. :p

Wanted Bear Visits Bavarian Police Station

The hunt for Bruno the brown bear is starting to get embarrassing. The furry predator who has killed dozens of Alpine sheep strolled through a Bavarian village, sat on the steps of the local police station and ate a guinea pig...

I guess hunters are hunters everywhere - you know the Finnish guys are going and getting fucking wasted on German beer somewhere while the bear wonders around doing whatever it wants.

PS. Where the fuck did it get a guinea pig? Those arn't native to Bavaria. What? Did it go into a Bavarian pet store and buy one just so it could go eat it in front of a police station? Maybe we should have the hunters disguise themselves as petshop owners and look for suspicious bear-like customers.

I bet this is on the Colbert Report today or tomorrow.

Brown Bear Meets a Tragic End

The brazen bear who captured the heart of the nation is no longer. Hunters shot Bruno dead in the early hours of Monday morning after efforts to capture the brown bear alive failed. He was the first wild bear to visit Bavaria in 170 years.

Bruno the wandering bear is dead. The notorious creature was shot by hunters at 4.50 a.m. on Monday morning, near the Bavarian town of Zell in southern Germany. "The shooting has happened, the bear is dead," said Manfred Wölfl, the Bavarian government's bear expert.

I didn't even know the Bavarian Alps had the highest mountains in the world. Things have changed since my childhood days.

Germans are now going bear-hunting in heights of 10,000 meters with the help of some Finnish hunters and their bear-dogs who can't find anything, lead by a government expert who hasn't worked for 170 years. That's just crazy. :p

And while I have yet to see a guinea pig running wild, my sister did find a jerboa in the streets in front of a café - so, I don't know. I might just be possible?

Big question is, though: Now that Bruno's dead - can we eat him? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/GermanNightmare/evil.gif

joking aside,if you leave them alone, they usually leave you alone..but...when they dont...bad day for you.

i shot one and the fucker kept coming...till i emptied my rifle and handgun into the sonofa bitch...chased me up a tree...whew...scared i was..lol

and before you tree huggers get upset...my friends kid was in harms way from the bear.

he was young(3 years old) and the bear started towards him...so i shot it...many times..tyhe kid ran ,of coarse, but the bear charged me...and i actually feared for my life!
