Okay, I need a geography wiz:
When I was crossing from Bari (Italy) to Patras (Greece) in a ferry I was arguing with my friend that we were in the Mediterranean, and she said we were in the Adriatic Sea. I agreed with her, but isn't the Adriatic just a part of the Mediterranean? Different sources say different things and I would like to clear this up.
Thanks

Adriatic Sea is part of Mediterenean. Like British Channel or North Sea are actually part of Atlantic Ocean. Or Italy part of Europe....Hence technically, both of you are correct although local names are more descriptive of location...

It's a branch of the Mediterranean in the same way the Mediterranean is a branch of the Atlantic.
