Let's say you have a friend, and your friend ask you to kill him, and you do. Would it be murder, suicide, or assistant suicide? I would probably mark it at Assistant Suicide.

Right now murder as it is not legal
But providing it was legal then assisted suicide though only if he was in a competent mind and made his wishes clear (such as in legal documentation)

You have left out far too many details for any rational response. Is your friend serious? Does (s)he have a 4 alarm hangover? How do you kill him/her? Does (s)he have a chronic illness? etc etc...

Maybe manslaughter, but with this information, I'd call it a murder.

Why would it be suicide?

Assistant suicide?
Is that when a TA's professor kills herself?
I think you mean Assisted Suicide.

How the fuck could it be suicide? You aren't dead!

um...the definition of assisted suicide is
The willfull death brought be the help of another person
leaving out the details of course
in American legal system that would go down as Assisted Suicide if they had proof the guy actually told you to kill him. (using 'him' as a universal term)
if there is no proof, it would be murder

You should have made the question more specific. The reason why, how, and is the person sane should all be taken into account.

By the very definition of murder, murder require "malicious intent". If a person does it out of friendship, it's assisted suicide.

no. Technically it is manslaughter if it was an accident
if it was out of friendship, so what? Your trying to kill him, that is malicious intent, no matter that your his best friend

If you're doing it because he asked you to as a friend, then it is not malicious.

Depends on what prompted the question. If you have been manipulating the guy into believing it would be better if he were dead I would call it murder.
If the guy is not capable of making a rational decision - e.g. he asks you to kill him because his girlfriend dumped him, while you know he will get over that just as he did the last 17 times, I am uncertain. You definately would not be a good friend, but how to judge you legally is tough.
If the guy asks you after thinking it through and maintains this wish for a significant amount of time it is assisted suicide, and I do not believe you should be punished. Your friends life, his choice to end it. I donot believe one needs to be insane to have a death wish.
