WC 06 Brazil vs Croatia

OK folks, the world's favorites to win this thing start their campaign today. Can anyone see Brazil not winning this match?

Actually it is possible given that the hardest opposition they have had recently was NZ, against whom they only managed one goal until almost the end of the match.

My prediction 3 - 1 to Brazil.

Goals from Ronaldinho (free kick), Adriano and Lucio

Brazil will win, not by more than three goals

I hope Croatia will win, but my mind says otherwise.
I think it will be a 3-2 win for Brazil.

Edit: WTF is Cachaca?

Cachaça (http://www.american.edu/TED/cachaca.htm)

Edit: Apparently it is the distilled spirit with the fourth highest production in the world (according to wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cacha%C3%A7a).)

Well, Brazil has just closed until tomorrow. (Schools and universities have stopped classes, most shops have shut). If there is a problem with my ISP I will only be able to get it fixed after the game etc.

It is going to be noisy. As the last WC was in Japan/Korea which is literaly on the other side of the world for us, it meant that the games were in the middle of the night. So this is the first time in 8 years that the Brazilians will really be able to hold a world cup party during the game. All hell is about to break loose.

I know what you speak of, it happens in my country as well

total shutdown of society
everyone looking at a TV, or their ears placed against a radio
no cars on the streets
no sounds except for animals, and when a goal is made

And the victories....
people pour into the streets
total strangers share drinks in a victorious frenzy
flags are waved, songs are sung

total, fun-filled, chaos

I imagine that it is especially loud and festive there when you beat us, as it is here when we beat you. Today will be a fairly calm riot, as there is no history involved with Croatia. Unlike the case with you or with Italy.

What I can say is that our fuel consumption during a world cup increases by about 15% as everyone just gets in the car and drives around with their hand on the horn after a Brazilian victory. Irritating.

Man, I can't wait to see what happens when we defeat England in the semis, and then Brazil in the finals

wooot woooot!

and on the fuel thing, don't all of you drive around in ethanol cars?

Not yet.

All of our gasoline has 15% added ethanol, and almmost all new cars can run on either gasoline or ethanol (or any mix of the two), but there are a lot of older - up to 2003 - cars that run on gasoline.

Um, you actually can't meet England in the semis and Brazil in the final. If England and Brazil are to meet it will be a semi. The same applies to you and Brazil. You can play England in a quarterfinal though, if you want to go home early. :p

KAKA!!!! 1-0 BRAZIL!!!!!!! GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLL!!!!!

P.S. Come on fantasy football!!!!! :D

EDIT: I was just writing what a boring first half it had been. Brazil created nothing but half chances and were held by Croatia really well. Ronaldinho was a winging sissy, complaining, calling for cards (when Kovac got booked - will FIFA fine him? Will they bollocks....). To be honest, I can still see Croatia equalising if they get enough set pieces, but only if they continue to close Brazil down, as they can't cope with the physical nature of the Croatians.

I just hope that after this Ronaldinho is too embarassed to mention referees again. How on earth was that a yellow card against Kovac, but not against Zé Roberto when he piled through Kovac?

The thugs on the field at the moment are Emerson and Zé Roberto, where is the protection for Klasnic?

Still a half to go. The thing is with Brazil, absolutely anything can happen, no reliable prediction of the second period can be made on the basis of the first.

Still going for a 2 goal Brazil win, 3 -1 probably.

So, I lost my bet but it turns out it wasn't so crazy after all.

Way to go, Croatia!

Also, our commentator here practically eviscerated Ronaldo's "Hmm, I'll just stand here for a while, maybe somebody will bring me the ball? Or maybe a nice cool drink?". :p

Not the recent season in Real Madrid. At least there he ran for the ball if it was near him and he looked interested.

He seemed... like a bull elephant on tranquilisers tonight.

I don't remember seeing him run for a couple of years now. His performance with Real depended on the accuracy of Beckham and Zidane, not on his mobility.

I think he is washed up mentally. He is not in condition and shows no desire whatsoever to get into condition. He is only playing because Brazil has this stupid attitude to 'tradition'. I personally think that he shuld not even be in the squad, with his place being taken by Fred (of Lyon). Then Brazil might have been dangerous. Today, their attack looked less incisive and threatening than that of Togo!

I have to agree. All in all, a disappointing preformance by Brazil.

Brazil are not going to win if they start their next game with only 10 players (as they did today) someone needs to give Ronaldo a good slapping and a massive caffeine injection. Still at least they perked up a bit when Ribero (or whatever his name is ) replaced him. Maybe they should call up Pele
