Palestinians set their own Parliament on fire!

People are well aware of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but are they aware of the Palestinian-Palestinian conflict? Palestinian factions routinely battle violently with one another and carry out terrorist attacks against one another. Between 2000 and 2005 approx. 400 of the 3000 Palestinians killed in the conflict were killed by other Palestinians.
Here is a prime example - Palestinians can't settle something via diplomacy in Parliament, so they torch the building!

Fatah Gunmen Attack Palestinian Parliament
By MOHAMMED DARAGHMEH , 06.12.2006, 02:34 PM
Hundreds of Palestinian security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas went on a rampage against the Hamas-led government Monday night, firing bullets and setting a Cabinet building on fire in retaliation for an earlier attack by Hamas gunmen.
The security men shot out the windows of the parliament building before storming the two-building Cabinet complex, where they smashed furniture, destroyed computers and scattered documents. No casualties were reported.
The mob then set fire to one of the Cabinet buildings, and the flames spread quickly. When a fire engine approached the scene, one gunman lay on the road in front of it, preventing it from reaching the building.
It just goes to show you that they don't take statehood and soverignity very seriously.

Yes, in part. Democracy only works in countries that have liberties, high standards of life, and high education. Regions that are politically and socially infantile don't adopt democracy well. The ones that attempt end up developing a pseudo-democracy that resembles less demanding forms of government, like dictatorships. Various African nations are good examples of this, and Iraq is going to be our next up and coming example of a democracy lapsing into a less demanding form, theocracy.
Perhaps in the future when they get it sorted out today will be known as the Palestinain Guy Fawkes Day.

Because it would put Palestinians in a bad light.
Oh sure. It's perfectly OK to air pictures of the Taiwanese Parliament having a riot in their chambers, but NEVER show Palestinians in a bad light.

They have televised fights in the Korean Parliament, too.
They should sell tickets in advance. Pay per view!
That's what we should do in the US - have the Democrats and Republicans fight it out in Congress, Ultimate Fighting rules.
Hey, maybe people would elect people who could kick some ass in Washington, instead of the creeps they send there now.

Yeah, maybe you kats in the states don't get the same news, the whole CNN conglomerate i suppose, but here in Canada, we do get the details. We know the the presidents person army (Fatah) have been attacking the militia for the majority parliment (Hamas) because Hamas will not accept the recognition of a false state (Israel). Did you also know that the Israelis have enacted an embargo over Palestine, cutting off foriegn aid. Did you also know that the Israelis, who arrived after World War Two ahve been conducting ethnic clensings of the Palestinians, going to villages and killing everyone? Maybe not. So perhaps jumping to conclusions is not always wise, until more details have arisen. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone Palestinian rockets killing those people that were having their picnic the other day, or when a suicide bomber walks into a Sapporro Pizza and blows himself up, but remember, the israelis have helicopters, and the palestinians have nothing, this is all they can do. The world has forgot what the Zionists did the Palestine and now look down at them in a downward light. Maybe they are terrorists, but maybe they're Freedom Fighters too, fighting for their survival while the rest of us, speculate on why they keep killing Jews.

And that came compleatly out of left field. I don't know whether to be amused or annoyed by that.
Any case, my question still stands as every time I see you've started a thread it's about Israel/Palestine conflict. A better question would be, don't you talk about anything else?

In Canada, Israel is recognized and accepted. Canada sure doesn't believe its a false state. I guess the Canadian media forgot to get that across to you.
Of course, no one recognizes a state called "Palestine." Such a state has never existed. Even Arab nations, which include it symbolically in the Arab League, don't recognize it as a state.
Canada also hasn't declared that Israel has practiced "ethnic cleansing" in any fashion. In fact, only extremist Arab groups claim this today. And while Arab countries, like Jordan, have explict laws that prohibit Jews from having equal rights or being citizens, in Israel the equal rights of all are protected, and Arab-Israelis are legally equal to Jewish-Israelis.
But back to the topic - Israeli MKs dont attack each other when they disagree. Some MKs (a minority) reject a two-state solution as well. Yet, they aren't attempting to burn down Parliament.

Why, it's a criticism of the United States' foreign policy regarding the oil-rich middle east, which supplies Shell with petroleum. The Shell represents the unbridled greed of the oil corporations, which doom third-world Arabs and incite hopelessness and terrorism. What an insightful, intelligent political commentary.

I'm just curious what the link between Shell and Palestinian terrorism is. If he does indeed imply that Shell (oil corporations in general) is somehow related.

So... Think we could start a tend of X-TREEM Politics?
Instead of debating the issues in a pseudo-civilised manner, they can smack-talk at each other across the chamber. And that whole 'voting' business could be jazzed up a treat - just imagine it, a televised series of 'debates' in which the politicians have to wrestle or fight it out in order to gain the majority of the dial-in votes.
Your bill didn't go through? Burn down the Reichst - er, parliament! ;)
