Whats NRT?

Hang in there it will get easier. How long have you been off the cancer sticks?

Personally I had to cure my oral fixation with tootsie pops.

YOu need distractions (like video games - lotsa video games) and you need to stay away from drinking alcohol or going out where people gather to smoke socially for a little while (two weeks at least).

Movies are good too but whatever you do dont watch "Saving Private Ryan" - I was already off smokes for a year when I saw that one and it made me want a cigg badly.

I never experienced heroin withdrawal, but I have heard that comparison a few times myself. It never got so bad that I hallucinated or couldnt eat for days, but I was quite an asshole to pretty much everyone I encountered.

Also I thought about ciggs everyday for nearly two years.

lol - I have quite an addictive personality though.

Seems easier to just keep smoking. Fuck that last five years, who wants it anyway.

nicotine replacement therapy, i just don't believe in it. last time i used it i only managed to quit for a couple of months.

less than 48hrs since the last one, pretty useless i know, although i've only had one in the past 72hrs or so. the last time i quit i was smoking loads more and it was way easier. managed 8 months that time. really don't understand why it's diffiult this time.

avoiding alcohol is a good idea actually, that's probably what helped the last time. as for video games, they wind me up like nothing else so that's out. movies might work for distracting - i'll try it :)

focus on something else. something you like to do. paint, draw, do models, karaoke... anything that requires concentration.

Good luck in kicking the habit.

OH I never heard of it.

I had to ween myself off smokes... I tried quitting many times over many years and the best thing I did was getmyself down to 2 smokes a day for a month before I could finally quit.

dont forget the oral fixation - tootsie pops saved my sanity.

also - exercise was a great suggestion and you might want to search for some calming breathing exercises.

i don't smoke that much anyway, i've been smoking normal filter cigarettes tha last few weeks cuz i don't like them so i managed to cut down a bit but i'm getting used to them now. still was only smoking about 5 or 6 a day before i stopped. before i quit the last time i was smoking about 12-15 rollies a day plus 6 or 7 spliffs and i quit just like that *shrugs*. are tootsie pops like sugar free lollipops? i think chewing gum helps too. i will look for breathing exercises although i'm not sure i'm disciplined enough to get much benefit from them without someone making me do it.

i've got a jar full of chillis. maybe i'll eat one every time i get a craving. that pain is sure to distract. i'd rather not have any more scars!

ohhhhh ok - I dont know those fancy schmancy terms :p

spliffs in your terms include tobacco right?
pot should help you quit! just smoke a joint instead and you'll be too stoned to even think about smoking.

tootsie pops are not sugar fgree - they are the suckers with tootsie roll candy inside. gum probably does help too, but I dont like gum plus the holding of the sucker just gave me somethign to do. plus the sweetness is pleasing so its not a bad way to replace smoking in the short term.

Ciggs arent as relaxing as they seem though. it's actually a stimulant believe it or not.

Nicotine's withdrawl isn't 'worse' than Heroine's, people that try to quit Heroine generally have a higher success rate than those who try to stop smoking. This in nothing to do with the sympotoms you are experencing right now, which should subside after 72 hours. It is due to the fact that smoking is legal accross most of the world, while heroine is not, ex-smokers are exposed to tobacco related stimuli far more often than an ex-heroine addict.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

heh! well part of the reason i want to quit is cuz i can't afford it so getting stoned isn't really an option!

Complete and total horseshit. Just like nicotine withdrawal in general. People who compare it to heroin have no idea what trying to quit heroin is like. And they are probably just bitching to bitch, and make a big deal out of their 'withdrawal' to justify to themselves why they don't wind up quitting.

If you don't like nicotine withdrawl try smoking. That usually helps since tobacco has nicotine in it. Hope that helps.

As a smoker, I never went through any nicotine withdrawal. Either I'm special, unique and my body just kicks everyone else's body's ass (hey, it's possible!), or nicotine isn't "more addicting than heroin" nor especially is it's surprisingly scarce 'withdrawal.'

While I myself never went through heroin withdrawals, I know three who have. From what they tell me, and comparing it with anyone's account of 'nicotine withdrawal' plus my own, I deduce that nicotine's withdrawal and addictivity are both lacking compared to that of heroin.

I suppose it could depend on the amount you smoked, and what condition your body was in when you went cold turkey. It's all subjective anyway- some people make more of a fuss than others.
