UPS guy vs DM, round one

DesignatedMarksman
12-06-2006, 19:31
The UPS guy was a little set back when I purchased 600$ worth of insurance. "Why?" he asked. I replied "Well, I'm shipping a gun".

Romanian AKM, so I said 16 inches.

"Well its less than 18 inches so I need to open it up and call the police."

in total shock I respond "what are you getting at? This is a rifle, the barrel is at least 16 inches long, the overall length is at least 26 inches.....you can open it if you want but why?!"

"rifles with short barrels of less than 18 inches need to be shipped by a firearms dealer, you need to read up on your firearms rules. That's from the department of transportation."

now holding back tears "You mean the ATF?"

The clerk goes to get the bible of shipping regs and flips to the page concerning firearms. "Pistols and shotguns of short length considered short barreled...." I think he was actually making up what he was reading out loud.

I stopped him mid sentence. "this isn't a pistol, its not a shotgun."

About 5 minutes later I spoke up, "I can go home and print out the ATF regs on shipping firearms, it would only take a minute."

But he didn't seem to care at that point. I'm guessing he got to the part where he thought I was wrong.

Its always something but until today I've never been threatened with a "call to the police" What is wrong with people today?

All ofem' are special. Just like Jay leno has so many cars, some guys just like to collect guns. Noone NEEDS 50 guns, but then again noone NEEDS a large SUV. This is America, if you have the money you can get whatever you WANT or NEED.

I think the total now is at 5 guns. 3 AKs, 1 SKS, and 1 m1 (korean war rifle).

Nah, we're just paranoid. We work in the trucking business. Seems the boss has over the years been the recepient of several credible death threats. I know he's got a rifle or two in his pickup too.

All things considered they come in here shootin, we can atleast shoot back. Though given our proximity to the highway and the small size of our office it's more likely they'd just ram the building with a truck.

I do not view an AK or an M-4 as a "powerful" gun.

The weapon I consider to be the most deadly in my cabinet is a bolt-action single shot rifle. It's a target rifle (Remington 40-XBBR-KS) in 300 Winchester Magnum.

Define "Assault rifle."

My Russian SKS (1953) is not an assault rifle, it has the original ten-round undetachable magazine. Most people see a Black rifle and asume it's designed to kill people.

With scope, and bipod, and other accoutrements, the single shot rifle I spoke of cost me close to 5,000 dollars.

Of course, what I'm paying for is repeatable, extreme accuracy.

Imagine that you're 300 meters away, and looking at a coin the size of a twenty-pence coin.

I'm going to put a bullet on that spot every time.

I just don't think it would be worth spending that much on a gun like that... Even if it was for competative shooting.

Anyone who spends 15k$ on a gun has money, and is probably sane.

Yay UPS guy!

FU UPS guy, Yay Redneck USPS woman who chatted with me for 10 minutes on the phone about guns :D. Even asked me how long the barrel was, to which I replied 16 and she said fine. I'm off to get it shipped off...

For those of you (if there are any) who buy several powerful guns for reasons other then to collect them or use them as sport/hunting, thats insane..

Yeah, home defense only requires two firearms; a rifle and a shotgun.;)

I bought my mom a pistol. She's small. For a long gun, I'ld have to purchase a shortened stock.

Geez. Sorry if I take death threats very seriously. Better be safe and condemn them all than laugh it up and be surprised when a gun is pointed at you.

Maybe if people would be more discriminatory in the kind of humour they use, we could drop the tasteless inane comment like those.

You, sir, are an ass. Either because you make death threats, or because you treat a serious situation like this as a joke. Pick your poison.

Oh, please....anyone with more than two functioning brain cells could tell that was a joke...not a very good one, but still a joke.

Who the hell are you to condemn someone else's sense of humor?

Lose the knee-jerk reactions and maybe you won't come off like such an incredible ass.

USPS female clerk: Yes, we can ship firearms.

USPS male clerk: No we can't.

I am calling the Postmaster AND the ATF on this guy.

This is going to get ugly.

Round two starts tommorow, 10 minutes after I get off work.

What's the problem? If you're right, none.
If you're wrong, some.

Dunno if this is helpful:

Shipping Firearms

Firearms may not be mailed or shipped interstate from one non-FFL to another non-FFL. Personally owned rifles and shotguns may be mailed or shipped to an FFL in any state for any lawful purpose, including sale, repair, or customizing. An FFL may ship a firearm or replacement firearm of the same kind and type to a person from whom it was received. Under U.S. Postal regulations, handguns may be sent via the Postal Service only from one FFL to another FFL, or between authorized government officials.

A person may ship a rifle or shotgun to himself, in care of a person who lives in another state, for purposes of hunting.

Firearms or ammunition delivered to a common carrier for shipment must be accompanied by a written notice to the carrier of the contents of the shipment.

This also might help in deciding to whom you wish to give your business:

...sure, the 30 carbine is a venerable cartridge, but apparently it also isn't allowed in very many indoor shooting ranges, as I've discovered to my chagrin. :(

reloading is so passé
Ah...So you think DeepKimchi has a John Woo fetish?
He secretly wishes he could be Chow Yun Fat.
Makes sense.
Explains the nom-de-plume.

Well, ok it doesn't, cause Kimchi's from Korea and Chow's from HK (Lamma island to be exact, where I live), but if he was to use HK specialty, he'd have to call himself "DeepStinkyTofu", which doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Agent Smith carries (depending on the movie) either a Desert Eagle in 50AE, or a Jericho 9mm (looks like a Desert Eagle, but actually fits under your coat).

I stand corrected. All I can remember (thank God!) of the last sucky movie was the fight at the end with all those Smiths and Neo.

Desert Eagle reminds me of the bit in 'Snatch' with Vinnie Jones.
"And, the fact that you've got "replica" written down the side of your guns. And, the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point 5 0" written on the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now . . . fuck off.

Perfectly legal in the US.

Most states in the US ban Assault Rifles from reaching civilian's hands.

But this is not an assault rifle. It is semi-automatic. You can purchase one just about anywhere without any federal oversight. My friend owns a replica AK-47.

Nope, only California, New York, and MA ban true assault rifles, while those same states ban scary looking semi rifles on the same premise.
