I find that the Germans prefer to actually SCORE goals, rather than just look fancy.

Oh, but just imagine if we replaced our infamous Standfußball (i.e. basically standing around mid-field, morosely kicking the ball back and forth to each other) and bullish trotting around with some smooth moves. Why, we could score goals and look fancy! :p

Brazil do both. However, the point is well made. All that Joga crap about "play beautiful" simply detracts from the actual notion of defence and tackling.

For anyone who plays football; when you play against a flashy tit like those in the joga videos, do you nail them?

The only true way to celebrate the world cup... drunkeness. Thinking about it, that's how I celebrate quite a few occasions. hmmm.

Man, that's a good video! This thread doesn't deserve to die.

Also, someone posted this (http://www.flabber.nl/archief/016677.php) George Best video in another thread a few days ago.. It's fucking awesome too.

i would argue that possession is 2/3 of the law [of scoring a goal], even if you allow for the missing 1/3...

plus... in a game that lasts 90 minutes (at least) and is not really full of scores it makes the time between goals much more entertaining...

i'm moving to SP, for a start and to settle down... easier to find work (i've done some there already and some people are waiting for me to arrive to give me more work)... but i hope to not stay in SP forever... or at least move to the interior of SP... SP is not exactly the nicest place in the world (very exciting though).

i always have Ilhabela for a quick escape.... *huuuuuuuge sigh*

i'll be there in about a month... :) :p :D

where are you?

I am just outside Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul. The land of Ronaldinho.

SP is OK (much better than RJ) but I prefer to avoid big cities. My wife is a Paulistana, so I get to go to SP every so often, but I would not choose to live there if I can help it.

nice... i've heard many good things about Porto Alegre. i wouldn't choose big cities really but it is tough to move to a new country without avoiding them, mainly due to work... unfortunately, my contacts are all in SP as well... so is my other-half right now (brasillian of course hehehehe).

Yes it is difficult to avoid the centres to start with. As to the site - it gives a load of quotes about the problems with fresh water supply and then an 'Under Construction' page. I guess it needs some more work.

What is it that you do. (I am a teacher and translator, as well as father and a post grad student at UFRGS).
