Hey everyone, does anyone besides me watch Nascar? If so, maybe we could get something going here.

Favorite Drive: Mark Martin

Every racing discusion, and I mean every-we could be talking about fucking lawn mower racing-has a side bar of trashing NASCAR. it's not my favorite form by a long shot, but I end up defending it which annoys me to have to do.

So you do it.

what type(s)?

The local series - V8s, production cars, super saloons, Targa Tassie, etc, WRC, Le Mans, F1, historics, bikes. I'm not a big fan of ones that just go around in circles/ovals - ie Indy & Nascar. I like a bit of variety in the racing.

That's pretty cool. Around where I live you have travel a pretty long way to get to a track, 6+ hours. Do you live near any?

I live between Infenion Raceway (Sears Point) and Laguna Seca.

I've only went to that once, the pits aren't big enough to accomidate fans, there is no support card for race day, you have to get ther freakishly early for a good spot and it seems that no one has heard of a fucking zipper so getting out is an hours long process, and they cut out the best turn on the track for the NASCAR guys. The last time I tried to go I ended up stopping at a bar in town and watching the race on thier big screen with the air conditioning. The vintage race I might go to though. Or the sports car race. Or both. Or, and this is more likely, none of them.

Though the dude with missing teeth that looked straight at me and said, "Yeah yeah yeah, all your Fords'll over heat in the parking lot." Bitch, my car is air-cooled...

Sandown is the nearest track to where I live, it's about 1/2 hour away. Winton is about 2 hours & Phillip Island (where they hold the Moto GP) is abour 1 & 1/2 hours.

About the same for me, more or less. (though I don't know where Winton is, exactly) Are you in the inner or outer suburbs?

Anyway, on topic - can't say Nascar does it for me. Actually, Formula 1 doesn't really either anymore, even though I used to be a big fan. Still watch the local V8s from time to time though.

NASCAR bores the holy hell out of me and most sane people.
Go fast...turn left.

Whoo!

I don't have cable, but if I'm at the house of someone who has it (like my parents, my brother in law's, or my uncle Dave's), I'll usually watch it. Of course, Daytona is an event that I make sure to be at my brother in law's (my uncle and my cousin come up to my brother in law's house for the race too).

Here's the breakdown of favorite drivers:

Me: Junior
My brother in law: Junior
My sister: Jeff Gordon (she started rooting for him to irritate my brother in law)
My nieces: don't really care
My nephew: Tony Stewart
My uncle: Junior
My cousin: Junior

If I wanted to watch rednecks go in circles, I'd just change all the intersections in the South into roundabouts.

It's not just southerners that race nowadays. There are a lot of drivers coming from the west coast now, and a few from the northeast. Also, they do have a couple of roadcourses they'll be at this year (Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen, to be exact).
