Ok Christians. Where is the guide (or, if you please, just summarize for us) the Ranking or ratings of sins. What tops the list, which carries the most minimal punishment?

I'm guessing something like

1. Murder
2. Rape
3. Homosexuality
4. Genocide
5. Pederasty
6. Bestiality
7. Stealing
8. Lying
9. Not believing in Jesus

actually I think it's more like

1. Placing your own judgement over God (not to be confused with not listening or taking God's advice but handing out Judgment like you are God.)
2. Placing other gods/idols above God
3. Murder, Rape, Homosexuality, Genocide, Pederasty, Bestiality, Stealing, Lying, Hypocracy, ignoring God, etc

Well according to Dante's Divine Comedy, the person who has the very worst place in hell, surfing on Satan's toungue for all eternity, is Judas who supposedly betrayed Jesus which would appear to make treason the worst sin. Which is just messed up. How could betraying Jesus be worse than killing a child? I mean Jesus was a grown man, he made his choices, he didn't have to say stuff that annoyed powerful groups, but a child is a complete innocent.

Well...you know...people have this bad habit of ranking a person they believe to be the son of God as a little more important than an innocent child, and therefore seeing his betrayal as more onerous.

think of it this way. which is worse, killing a child or betraying a child's trust and then killing them?

Both have the same end. the child is dead, but one actually betrays the trust a child would give to a person.

According to Genesis, Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden for disobeying God, and eating from the tree of knowledge.
This caused God to forever curse humanity with hardship, and toil, and painful death.

This is by far the worst sin of all if God forever takes it out on the whole of humanity, for the rest of its days.

No, you're misrepresenting it.
The evil counselors and betrayers are at the end. Not the killers and crucifiers.

What you should really be asking is, “which is worse, betraying a child or killing him?” You could still argue that betraying him is worse, since death is the end for all things anyway (or the beginning, if you like fairy tales), and therefor doesn't really affect the child (besides hastening his fate.)

When you think about it, Santa is a pretty bad guy. He is a dictator who rules the North Pole with an iron fist, forcing the elves (henceforth called "slaves") to do all kinds of menial labour, such as working in factories all day long, sorting his mail, keeping track on all children. That's right, Santa's got his own little CIA keeping track of everyone on the planet, and he has absolute authority on what is "good" and what is "bad". He also keeps track on all the "naughty" children. Why? Because he wants to spank them, that's why.
He also discriminates, as he only visits Christian children, though he seems to keep track on every child on the planet.
But it's the slaves that pisses me off though. Even the reindeers have higher status than them, and they've got 11 months of holiday.
This, of course, brings up another interesting question: How do the slaves travel the world? Considering what we have seen Santa do, I'm guessing those poor people have to walk everywhere.

Way to go Santa.

This seems as good a place as any to point out this important news article.

DNA Evidence clears Eve, Adam in "Apple Biting" incident
Eden - Adam and Eve were innocent, according to the results of a new scientific investigation. DNA technology has posthumously cleared Adam and Eve, his common-law wife, of any wrongdoing in the so-called "Original Sin" at the dawn of mankind. "The DNA evidence clearly shows that neither of these two people actually bit the apple. In fact, the DNA present wasn't even human," says Edwin Rothschild, chief researcher for the U.S. Department of Ancient Agriculture.

Rothschild believes the DNA taken from saliva on the 25 000 year-old apple was, "probably from a monkey or something.”

The news has shocked biblical scholars and God-watchers from around the world. A spokesman for the Vatican says, “ Mankind has been doing penance ever since for a sin that never happened. If you ask me, God’s got some 'splaining to do."

When contacted, God expressed regret at what he termed “an unfortunate misunderstanding” but refused to claim full responsibility. "You have to understand, we didn't have DNA testing 25 000 years ago. I figured, hell, there's only two of them here, it must have been Eve. Who else would have eaten from the Forbidden Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge? Adam was too stupid to disobey me, and Eve was spending a lot of time with that snake, but in retrospect, looking back at five thousand years of human history, I guess I should have realized it couldn’t have been the humans who ate from the Tree of Knowledge and was most likely a rogue dolphin or maybe a squirrel."

God refused to comment on reports that humanity will now be claiming aboriginal title to the Garden of Eden. “I don’t even remember where it was exactly, but it probably looks like shit by now,” said the Supreme Being.

However, in a show of good faith to Eve and her decendants, who now number about 2 billion, God has removed the "Curse" of painful child-bearing from all women. Menstrual cramps will apparently be replaced by “menstrual butterflies” and women will now only feel a slight tickling sensation when giving birth.

1) Having another God then God (like believe in "the market" or something)
2) Making pictures/ images of God (like you see in Roman Catholic churches)
3) Cursing and using God's name in an idle fashion (like when you say "God bless America" for election purposes.)
4) Not respecting the sabbath ( = working on, since 320, sunday) when you can.
5) Not respecting your father and mother.
6) Stealing
7) Killing
8) Adultery (not necessarilly encomprising homosexuality)
9) Perjury
10)Wanting something that is not yours, be it a house, a lover, an ass or anything else.

Homosexuality can only be ranked as a sin when the practising of it involves (either/or/and)
- minors
- prisoners of war (like in Guantanamo)
- prositutes/gigoloes
- Choir boys
- rape victims

In other instances, the Bible has little to say about :fluffle: homosexuality, although christians have. Unfortunately, many of my coreligionists take a different and not very christian view. - They lack both clemency and charity. (incidentally: I'm not holy either)

Catholics have a two-tier system, mortal sins and venial sins. All mortal sins carry the same weight and are more serious than venial sins. Also, all venial sins carry the same weight. Makes life easier that way.

The worst sin: Hate. All of the more specific actions are the result of expressions of hatred, ie rape, murder, genocide.
After that: Arrogance (thinking one is better than others, knows what God thinks/wants, presume to judge others, etc)

Lots of Christians act like they think the least sin is hypocrisy, but its much higher up, I think. I think the least bad(theres no good way to phrase that) are sins of inaction, ie not giving seat on bus to elderly, not giving to homeless, etc. At least, I hope they're the lowest on the evil scale, cuz i have more of them than any others.

if you're asking from a Christian standpoint, the list is, in its entirety:

1. not believing in Jesus

no one has ever gone to hell for murder, adultery, stealing, making bad puns, or anything else. people are rejected by God (once again, from a Biblical Christian standpoint) only because they do not believe in or accept the redemptive work of Christ. if they do, the Bible is clear that the sacrifice He made atones for all of their sins, no matter how grave, and that they have confidence to access God by Him (1 John 1:17, Eph 3:12)
