You're creating a group of warriors for a movie/novel/game/whatever. How will they be outfitted?
Note - High fantasy weapons (LotR,D&D) will be considered Medieval. Space Fantasy (SW) will be considered futuristic.

I would give them the ability to create public forum message boards. That way their enemies would waste all their time arguing with each other over gay marriage and their favorite cartoons until eventually they fell to conquest or their civilization just crumbled under the weight of its own inertia.

Well, I'm in favor of two types of weapons:
Swords. All sorts. I love swords, from Sabres to Rapiers, Katanas to broadswords. I tend to write more with Katanas and Broadswords because I have personal experience with both.
Revolvers. Simple six shot guns. Don't know much about guns, being a pacifist and all, but I do love revolvers.
I created a fantasy world, Third Incarnation, which is very post apocalyptic in ways (but alot more subtle then, say "Wizards") where the common weapons are knives and swords, the Military weapons are one shot rifles, and the prestige weapons are revolvers. Two of my main characters carry revolvers (in this world, it is a new technology, they are highly innacurate and malfunction prone). One won his in a great tournament for Gunment, the other stole it from the tourney the next year.

mini-nuclear bomb launchers (like 20 foot radius) set to a timer so you won't give yourself radiation poisoning, and the bomb has a spike so it is stuck in the ground. Or, instead of a timer, each soldier can have some of that anti-radiation armour that they use in Russian tanks

Rifles with big nasty bayonets and six shooters that even Clint Eastwood would be afraid of!
The Dessicator from the game Dark Reign.
Turn an entire planet into a mini-sun for about two hours by causing a reaction with the oxygen and hydrogen in the atmosphere.
Wouldnt work IRL of course, but its still one of the best superweapons ever ^_^

You think that. But what about a gun that shoots lightsabres?
Seriously though, I can't really think of anything. I am a sci-fi fan, but favour low-tech, more realistic sci-fi. So some kind of assault rifle, with modular bullets to give them some versatility. Combat armour, of course, but none of this 12 foot tall powered armour stuff, just bulletproof clothing of some kind.
Heavy weapons would probably have some kind of rocket launcher of doom that'd make a tank column blink.
Support, of course, would have the mother of all machineguns. And a flamethrower. Hell, if you could combine them, that'd be great too. They'd get some lightweight exoskeleton as well to help them carry loads of stuff, so also a grenade launcher to backup heavy weapons. The grenade launcher would also be highly modular, to let it chuck say, incendiary, anti-vehicular, mines, or some other crap.
As for gear, you need multiple vision mode binoculars, or some cycloptic or tricloptic helmet. Two eyes is for losers, and more than 3 looks cluttered. Definitely with huge magnification capabilities. that way, depending on the assault rifles type, you could use it as a makeshift sniper with the right gear tying it to the suit optics.
Alright, I'm done.

It depends. I might set it in a jungle and give the characters guns, but have them on occasion have to fight in close with machetes, knives, and unarmed martial arts.
If I set it elsewhere the weapons change.

Gotta agree with you on that one. Magic/psychic ability and a sword. And then some really good spaceships...
Yes, I am writing a fictional book, and yes, I do have a character who has all of those. PA vs. M, in her case, but other characters have magic.
Edit: Oh, she also uses martial arts, too.
I'll go with some Metroid style power armor with the built in arm cannon.

What about telepathic abilities? I am thinking of Alan Dean Foster's Commonwealth books... Flinx, the hero, fiddles with his enemies' emotions to either convince them to do his will or to distract them. There is also a ridiculously powerful bunch of bears (Well, the are bearlike, anyway) who have even more tremendous telepathic abilities.
Of course, the books also make use of futuristic weapons, and the old reliable trained überpoisonous flying snake, surely one of the most low-teach ways of killing an enemy.
I honestly am not sure which category those books fit.

To bad we couldn't give Pip force powers and teach Flinx to use a lightsabre.

Yeah, that's what I chose in the end. It's all about the combinations of old and new.
To bad we couldn't give Pip force powers and teach Flinx to us a lightsabre.
I do not think Flinx would have any trouble picking up some lightsabre skills. Personally, I'd rather see Truzenzuzex try a 'sabre. Or four.

He's good as a blunt object too.
I'll have to call "futuristic weapons" on this one - energy bolt/beam weapons, shields, power armor, Redeemers (er, miniaturized nuclear missiles), and... psionics.
Remember, if the supernatural abilities are called "magic" and are explained as being a part of the natural world... it's fantasy. However, if the supernatural abilities are called "psionics" and explained through technobabble or other "scientific" means... it's science fiction.

Shoggoths, protopsalmic animals the size of a small town, launched from orbit onto the enemies major cities. They will eat swaths of destruction through enemy territory before returning to their hibernative state. Due to their incredibly sinplistic nature, they aside from complete incenration the only way to stop them would be the application of massive ammounts of radiation, enough to kill humans millions of times over.

Teddy Bears and Flowers, but the teddy bear would have a gun in it like Stewie's in that 'Family Guy' Episode, and the flowers would shoot lazers, they'd never expect it!

Something that fires a fair amount of bullets. Like 100,000,000,000 mini-guns attached to the front of my uber-spaceship. Maybe a laser or 200,000 with those mini-guns too. What, this isn't the godmod thread? Well in that case I'd just ensure my team is made up of some of them Terminater dudes.

a scimitar, a tatar bow and a horse. To color it more for your imagination include a eagle with 2 meter wing lenght that can hunt small sheep for you :D I love my history, there are still hunters with those huge eagles in steppes of asia but nowadays they are rare.
A turkish scimitar is a weapon made by a special tecnique, it resembles a saber or katana more than an arabic scimitar. Its forge tecnique makes blade stronger with every hit.
A tatar bow is a very small and comlex bow made of composite materials. Can be used while riding a horse. Can score a direct hit instead of a horizontal one and pierce plate armor, has an effective range of 300 meters with straight shot and 900 meter with horizontal shot. Crossbows are sometimes called tatar bow but this is actually a translation mistake that became widely used.
An asian horse is a small, very agile and incredible endurant animal which lets you quickly engage to combat and get out of it.

True. Tru was a ju jitsu blackbelt so he would have the ability. Plus a 5 foot purple and green Mantis would look killer on the big screen. On that note I would like to see the fcommonwealth stories made into movies. they'd probably screw it up though.
I've been toying around with the idea of forging a giant pair of scissors and sharpening both the outer and inner blades. When closed, it could be used as a large sword for slicing and stabbing; then, open it up and start cutting limbs off and snipping torsos in half.
I think it would work.

50's weapons, which have a lot of modern stuff in them, like Uzis and AK-47s. My next choice, following close behing is pirates.
