Every now and then, I've noticed that Firefox seems to "reset" itself. All of my bookmarks and such completely vanish. I've never been given any concise answer from the Mozilla people on why or what can be done to prevent it, so I thought I'd turn to you folks because, well, many of you are Firefox nerds too. :p
Any experience with this? Has it happened to you as well?

It's never happened to me, which is almost a shame, as they're getting out of control and I really can't be arsed to organise them.

Happened to me. It seems to happen only when Firefox crashes, though.
Never happened to me either...
*is not tempting fate*
Yes, that happened to me. I still had a back up of my bookmarks on my computer(not that I ever though to do this myself, I just searched my computer for 'bookmarks' and hoped for the best).
That and firefox just dies when ever I load certain sites. I think www.skoool.ie was one of them.

Hasn't happened to me either, but I run it on a Mac--it does occasionally freeze up on me, though, and on some MSNBC pages, the text of the story will sometimes run behind the graphics on the page.

No problem here. Probably will be if I keep using Stumble Upon and adding more bookmarks, most of which I will never visit again.

Is this when it crashes and resets back to default user mode? Happened to me a couple of times.
Try firefox.exe -profilemanager from a command prompt to get your old user profile back.
I think it TRIED to do that to me a couple times, but I changed my profile or something to get everything back.

I only use the default user mode. Which is probably why I haven't had that happen. I've never lost anything due to a Firefox crash.

I've seen it too...it's happened at least once. I've alos had some images unable to display and when you play runescape, it starts messing up letters...still better than ie though.

It happened when I upgraded to new version. The old bookmarks vanished.
And for some reason, it is now crashing sometimes when I load lots of tabs and switch to another tab before one tab loads completely and this happens when the loading tab is NS..:(

I tried to make a 100% standards compliant web site. It works on Opera, Safari, Konqueror, and Firefox... but IE kills it completely. Especially the Z order. I dont care about viruses since I run Linux, but I do like Live Bookmarks for rss feeds.

Man... Firefox sucks ass... it screws up the layout whenever theres a Flash applet or CSS coding... Internet Explorer PWNS!Nope. Firefox renders CSS correctly. CSS (and to some extent HTML) coded incorrectly in order to work in IE looks bad in just about every other browser, including Firefox.

It has happened to me several times when it crashed. I was able to recover with a System restore strangely. And I had some old backups. It happens when it tries to reset to the default user whatever like someone said.
And LOL @ IE rendering CSS. Firefox renders so much more (:hover on more than just a, :after, :before, some other stuff I've forgotten), and does it correctly.

I haven't had that problem, per se. When I updated it had a weird quirk to it but it hasn't done that in a while-it didn't take the bookmarks with it, it didn't seem to update so much as load a whole new one, because v.1 is still sitting here. I probably hit the wrong download button or something. But I got the bookmarks from the old one over here, so it's good. I guess that works as a backup, except new ones but I rarely bookmark anything.
The one problem I have had, and I don't have many extensions or anything, is the autofill locking the whole program up. So much so that I had to turn it off (it was only marginally helpful anyway...) But I'd start typing something and the autofill would start guessing what I was typing and then, out of no where, the spinning beach ball of death would show up. I turned autofill off so now I have to type the whole world "Dune buggy" when I want to daydream that I can buy a dune buggy...

Spinning beach ball of death--I like that. Do you have it copyrighted yet?
A friend started a myspace page--I know, friends don't let friends start myspace pages--but I can't access it on either Firefox or Safari, because the spinning beach ball of death pops up, and then it's nothing but Force Quit and reopen the porn tabs in a whole new browser and that just gets old. I told her so, too.

Everyone in the film department called it that. I still have the pavlovian response to it, "When was the last time I saved?"

Autosave was probably the best feature MS ever introduced into Office, that's for damn sure.

As far as I have been able to tell it is a firefox lockup
If firefox profiles lock (and it prompts you to pick a default user or something) close FF and restart
Thats how I lost all thoes good arguements

It could use some tweeking ... namly auto saving the PRE change file (when a user selects to overwrite the origional)
We had someone do that in registrations last week (idiot) and loose a massive spreadsheet (probly 40 hours worth of work) when she overwrote the old one with a blank document

The school computer harddrives where always filled with autosave files from Final Cut because first year production students would start setting the autosave to every 15 minutes after they lost thier first project 6 hours into thier 8 hour editing process.
My first year quirk was insisting on doing all the editing in one sitting because I was afraid that once I closed Final Cut I'd never get the thing to work again.
